Re: No Hockey Fans This Post Season???

Oh jeez Bill - should get interesting if you guys win (which I hope you will).  Should we be like the mayors and come up with a side bet?  lol

Good luck tonite.

Wow!!! Disappointing giving up a tying goal with 9 seconds left in regulation, but pull it out in double OT. Great pass by Toews, awesome shot by Kane to complete his hat trick and put the final stake in the heart of the Kings.

Rocket, I think the Blackhawks will fix the "fix".
Hawks in 6!

A good game to take the series, Bill.  That was a perfectly scripted tying goal by the Kings, boy did the air go out of the crowd fast on that!  Kings flatter than a pancake on power plays.  As messed up as they all made the ridiculous build up to a near no-show season, the 2 teams playing the best ARE meeting in the players' playing sponsored "all-star game series".  Should be pretty good.

If somebody in Chicago (not a Blackhawk) has a sacred obligation made on his mother's grave, and somebody in New York has respectfully reversed "The Fix", I'd say look no further than a Blackhawks Sweep!  They have been awesome this year, it will have the "appearance"  of being entirely plausible....(*Maxwell Smart voice* "Aha, just as I suspected, the old hands clean as a whistle, unfix the fix trick!"..."or is it the dirty handed fix the fix by unfixing the fix trick?" "Ah, yes, well, I have no idea what I'm talking about 99!" hmm   tongue)

I know this: either venue can be intimidating to play in, no question and any player who says they don't believe so is deluded or at least was hit in the head too much in junior hockey.  Especially when things are going too good for "them" or too bad for "us"...lookout!  Chicago just has to do what they've done, and charge at the goal instead of shooting it in and digging it out, but amazing how the Bruins disrupt so very well.  I call goalies really about equal.  Hot prior (as well as suspect at times earlier) has zero significance until proven again from scratch in the finals.

Should be pretty good.

They do what they did to this season again though............I don't care who accuses whom.

Re: No Hockey Fans This Post Season???

That Kings goal in the final seconds of regulation was definitely deflating.  Fortunately, the Hawks didn't come out and play that way, in OT.  Could tell both teams were playing tired, at points.  Some real missed opportunities, on both sides.

What would be appropriate fantasy "side bets"?

#1 Chicago offering would probably have to be a deep-dish pizza.  We could debate from which place, everyone has a favorite, around here.

GO HAWKS!!!!

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: No Hockey Fans This Post Season???

Always said Kane could be better if he did more skating without the puck, but he did come through for the Hawks.
There is no way they wanted to fly back to LA for another game. They would be playing 3 games in 3 nights if they lost out there.
Bruins Hawks is going to be a fun series and maybe it will generate good ratings with the casual fan. Hope it goes the distance.

The score should never have been 3-2. Officiating hasn't been this bad in the playoffs since the Islanders won Cups by "cheating" in OT.

The one thing I've learned in all the sports I've played and watched, is that the officiating has a tendency to even out, especially in a series of games. The team complaining about the officials is almost always the one that lost.

If its fans complaining yes, but I actually had no problem with the officiating in the Rangers games (except the ridiculous delay of game rule, which isn't the refs fault). Way too much inconsistency this year, within many games and especially game to game.

Re: No Hockey Fans This Post Season???

Haha, it sounds like the Rangers and Canucks might be trading coaches. Both former coaches set to interview with the other team. Like changing coasts is going to make a difference.

Re: No Hockey Fans This Post Season???

I started playing hockey as if I grew up in Canada, not the US.  I've had to play referee, without training (talk about on the job training), and the guys doing this are premier, even as the pros continue learning.  Always simple to blame the officials, but teams in any sport that get to the ultimate goal do it despite the officials (and a bow to Rocket, wasn't it him that said "fix"....fans swear that happens, too).  EDIT:  And breaks of whatever kind are part of every game.  Didn't hit that post, didn't miss that pass, didn't get called for a "no call".  All part of the game, whatever it is.

I've messed up as an official, they (we) all do.  Did a team get knocked off, because of that?  Maybe....

Play on, and win, it's the name of every game, in life.

EDIT:  It's killing me, but I passed on tix to tomorrow's game.  300 level and $300.  Too busy for it, work-wise.  Maybe later in the series.

big mistake letting Torts go. Hes a great coach who got the most out of the players he had, especially in 2011-2012. This year injuries, including two shoulder surgeries for "active players" right after the playoffs, didn't help any. Trade Staal for Hamrlik and they might still be playing.

Sather being very coy about the reasons, implying theres more than just the team's performance, but idk. Sounds like scapegoating to me.

Re: No Hockey Fans This Post Season???

Last night's triple OT game was one for the ages!
Two very hot goaltenders kept their teams in it. That 3rd OT period was almost tough to watch...very little gas left in the players tanks. This looks like its going to be a historic series.

Re: No Hockey Fans This Post Season???

Couldn't agree more Bill. Was one heck of a way to start a series. Looks like 2 equal teams and was great to see a clean played game with the officials letting them play. Hope the rest of the series is as good as last night.

It may be the second in line for game of the ages though as the game 7 with Boston and Toronto has it beat if you had a chance to watch that one live.

I did, but I was disappointed that Toronto let that one slip away. Not because i was cheering for either team, i just felt bad for Toronto to lose that way. I give credit to Boston for the comeback, but Toronto folded. Also, that game was pretty tame until the last few minutes of the 3rd period.
Last nights game was pretty much contested from start to finish AND it was a Stanley Cup Finals game. IMO, was a much more exciting game...although I was emotionally invested in the game which certainly colors my opinion.
How about game 7 Chicago vs. Detroit? Where do you rank that out of curiosity?

I know last nights game was a Stanley Cup game and yes it was contested from start to finish but the Boston and Toronto game was a game 7 and the loser was out. Of course Toronto "folded" or they would have won. The 2 goals in the last minute was unreal once again in a game 7. Yes last nights game was exciting and I was right there with you for every minute of the game but I personally just disagree and if one of last nights teams was my favorite team I can definitely see your point.

The team I root for (I'll duck now for the jabs thrown my way now) is the Capitals. Started rooting for them when they joined the league in the mid 70's because it was tough having a home team 1000's of miles away. I live in Virginia so it was nice having pro hockey games I could go to in about a 3 hour drive. Before that my 2 favorite teams were ....... you guessed it the Blackhawks and the Bruins. Still like them next in line after the Capitals and don't have a favorite of either in the cup finals. Just want to see it go 7 (being selfish and wanting the season to be as long as it can because its the most exciting sport out there). As for the game 7 between Chicago and Detroit it was also an edge of your seat game and hard to figure out what team was going to score but it didn't have a hold of me like last nights game did. I bet in a few months you'll be talking about last nights game long before the Hawks/Red Wings game. I think Chicago is going to take it but I think Boston showed they are more than deserving being there. Got a chance seeing Boston play more during the season more than I saw the Hawks play so have more insight on their team and they are one tough bunch of players defensively. Their problem during the season was scoring and looks like they have that back. My season was made by whoever took out Pittsburgh and it couldn't have happened better than the way it did. I know your a big Hawks fan so for you I'll end it like this ........... GO HAWKS.

Re: No Hockey Fans This Post Season???

Truly spectacular game, last night...draining to watch.  How each team kept at it, even as you could see them becoming drained, was another of those lessons in "pluck"--for those that may remember my quote reference in the tornado-related topic thread.  The "hockey gods" were in the Hawks' corner, and some serious help was given to both goaltenders, by two fantastic teams.

Not sure I can stand too many more games like that, though.  But I'll be rooting for both sides (and hoping the Hawks end up on top).

EDIT:  Pardon me, for waxing nostalgic.  Back when I was young and could play hockey....  I started as a defender, then switched to goaltending, because the one for our team thought you just stood back there in the goal mouth, and "woke up", from time to time.  Tony "O" Esposito was my hero.  None of the crazy-cool helmets and face cages, back then.  Tony and Phil most deserving hall of famers, for certain.  We'll see some of these guys make it there, at some point, I'm betting.

http://www.goaliesarchive.com/hawks/indexesposito.html

A vintage shot of Tony, in the "state of the art" equipment, of that era, at the link.  Some crazy records, too.  Not all of them to be proud of.

I learned to play butterfly style, when almost nobody did that.  It freaked my coach out, at first.  Now, that's how the netminding game is played.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.
