Topic: The smooth blues overdrive, new pedal.

Whilst searching for a dumble style overdrive pedal I cam across this on the Matt Schofield forum. It's a pedal from guys who make dumble type amps and have produced a pedal. I liked the sound samples on the site and ordered one. Should be here in a couple of days so I'll report back when I've played it. here's the link to the site in the meantime.

Definately interested to hear how that sounds, cheers mate. I will be buying an overdrive pedal at some point and was thinking between the Boss Blues driver or the Marshall Blues Breaker but this looks interesting

Unless you're planning on modding the Blues Driver I would avoid it. I had one and it was real fizzy.

Try the Catalinbread products too. I have the Formula No. 5 and it's a dynamite cranked Fender sound. I have the DLS (Dirty Little Secret) coming later this week.

Re: The smooth blues overdrive, new pedal.

why is it that all the buses come at once. I ordered the smooth blues driver yesterday and have just bagged a tanabe dumkudo from the ol' fleabay today. I'll try em out side by side and then decide which one to keep. Hope I don't like both of them.

Nice. I wonder how it sounds through a 100 watt tube Marshall

The dumkudo of the smooth blues driver.

Re: The smooth blues overdrive, new pedal.

The Tone Monk "Seed of Life" pedal has been getting some good air on other forums as a pedal that could give you Dumble-esque tones...

I'm a big fan of the Zendrive, I love mine. It's a real nice low grain overdrive with very sooth crunch. You can get a whole variety of tones with the EQ. At full on the grain is about 3/4 of a Tubescreamer. It's perfect for a nice growl in your rhythm or boost it with a Tubescreamer to really make it sing for leads.

Re: The smooth blues overdrive, new pedal.

So both pedals arrived this morning. Need to get to testing them out tonight. Will have to decide which stays, Gonna hook the pedals up in this order, Providence SOV-2 - Volt Amps Smooth Blues Driver - Tanabe Dumkudo. I can keep 2 of the 3. I'll report back tonight hopefully.

Looking forward to that Fuzz.  I have the Bluesbreaker 2 and it's pretty good but I am still on the lookout for a really special OD pedal for my Artisan 15 (it doesn't have any gain controls at all) or a combination that works good.

So i got the pedals hooked up last night and had a play. I set the dumkudo on dumble mode and was instantly impressed. A nice smooth overdrive, very much a higher gain robben ford sound. The tone controls really helped shape the sound but I liked it best with volume at 9 o'clock, gain at 3 o'clock, tone controls both at 12 o'clock. This pedal sounded good with my PRS which has lower output pickups than my les paul.

The volt amps smooth blues driver was set with all controls at noon except the gain which I had a 3 o'clock. Again this gave a very good smooth overdrive sound. The sound was a lower gain slightly brither sound than the dumkudo. A very usable tone. This one sounded good with my les paul which has a bare knuckle black dog fitted to the bridge

The providence stampede is a different beast to the other pedals. Although it does a good overdrive sound it is not as smooth sounding as the dumkudo or smooth blues driver. At present I think I will be keeping the dumkudo and the smooth blues driver. I think the search is over for overdrive pedals, for now anyway.

Re: The smooth blues overdrive, new pedal.

I spent some more time with the pedals again last night and as I played I became increasingly impressed with both the dumkudo and the smooth blues driver. Both able to produce a great dumble type tone through a modelling amp set to a slightly driven blackface tone. Both pedals are very responsive also. Knocking back the volume to 4 or 5 on the guitar really cleaned it up and was able to get into the great flood intro tone.
