Topic: Texas Mile

Here in the US, there is a great tradition of drag racing. Once a year in Texas, at an industrial airport, folks come from far and wide to do the standing start mile with the fastest car they can build. All that counts is horsepower, traction management,  and the top speed achieved at the end of the mile run. Oh, and the ability to stop in 1/2 mile from the speed you achieve. These are all street legal cars. yikes

Start with a ride in a box stock Ford GT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07RKh5g2Qac&NR=1

Now a ride in a VWGTI Mk3. 208mph.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy28qa9G … re=related

Now a trio of Toyota Supras. to 230+ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpKz9eiz … re=related

Next a very fast Supra. 248! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6mOkWuaAC0&NR=1

Foreign cars are ok, but here we love our Big Iron. A highly modified Ford GT, world record. 252.97 from a standing start! Ride along with the driver. Note the ferocious wheelspin at the top of the lower gears from the approx  1200HP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk9vMQRI … re=related

There are more at the link area. Enjoy the ride.

Re: Texas Mile

Nice! Thanks for the links Rick...I'm not a big racing fan per se, but I can appreciate (understatement alert) a bit of speed!

Re: Texas Mile

Glad you liked it Bill. You don't have to be a race fan. This is very simple. You, your car and the mile of flat, wide cement. People run all kinds of cars at this event. Many are daily drivers that are souped up. One gent, 73 years old, drove his 1976 Porsche 911 Turbo from Canada. (600k miles on it, original owner). He is a race buff and the car is souped up but still... Ran 175! Let his son jump in and he ran 176. Both got in and headed back to Canada. Ya gotta love it. We've all wondered what our cars would do top end. No traffic, no worries, just floor it.  tongue
