Topic: Oh No! Not more (great?) photos from Folkestone

At the risk of everyone ignoring this post, here is a selection from some of the pics I took at Folkestone on the first night of Joe’s recent UK tour. Apologies for the delay, but my holiday in Portugal got in the way. big_smile

Although these were taken with my little Fuji point and shooter there are a few gems amongst them. I particularly like the two after the set list which were taken (horror of horrors) with the flash on. The remainder were all taken sans flash. I experimented with the film settings starting with ordinary, then sepia and black and white and then Velvia for the rest. Remember Velvia? The colours on these shots are particularly deep making Joe’s acoustic look a shade of browny/red. Looks good though. BTW, that’s a pick between Joe’s lips, not his tongue! lol

The setlist was taken before the show and held by the lighting guys, hence the handwritten notes.

The BonaBuds with Rick and Carmine at the end are Roger, David and Maggie.

Folkestone Set 1

Folkestone Set 2

Hope you like them.

Ignore? - no fear - I've watched 'em twice.
Some great shots there Phil.

You can be forgiven the lapse Wooders. I'd have blown off the photo work for a last shot at sun before the dreary winter sets in as well. I remember Portugal and it is  cool . Great shots once again and the different tones add a fresh look. Thanks.

Wonderful pictures as usual Phil! cool You're really picking up a lot of detail. So much detail that it appears Joe's got some serious stuble on his face. Could a beard be looming in Joe's future now that he's wearing his hair so short? I guess only his hairdresser knows for sure. wink

Getting good there mister.  You know we never get tired of Joe pictures here.  Like the velvia tones.

Roy - Joe was doing the stubble thing a couple of years ago and I haven't seen it turn into a beard yet:

As a lifelong bearded one,(at least once it started to grow) the point where it gets to the itchy stubble point is the hardest part to overcome. You look and feel kinda crummy for a week or two.

Re: Oh No! Not more (great?) photos from Folkestone

Joe has had the "stubble thing" going on and off going back at least 5 years.  Interesting to know you were born with a beard Rick, I had to wait 14 years and then shazaam!

Now after the above delay much shorter than a Portugal straycation, but much easier to ignore than those fantastic pictures Phil! Sandy is right, we can't get too many, let alone enough.  Beside your color experiments, it is really something to see the veritable rainbow of colors in the JOEshow nowadays!!! The lights, the guitars (all of them striking against Joe in black).

Captured quite nicely my good man!  smile
Check out Bogie's Red & Evil look in one! lol  (Set 2, Joe with his green "Luke", looking back, just a few pics before the the picture with the swath of blue light cutting diagonally across Joe and his guitar) cool  cool

I think I'm losing it - I completely missed this.

Good work Phil.

As I've got the same camera I think I need to start playing with all those buttons a bit more - the quality of your pics is excellent  smile

Phil, absolutely stunning shots. The more I see from you and Pete with your compacts, the more it convinces me of the merits of this format. Love the sepia and B&W by the way.

Re: Oh No! Not more (great?) photos from Folkestone

Thank you for all your nice comments and thank yous, I'm glad you liked them. They would have been even better if Joe had kept still long enough.  lol  He moves too quickly for my Fuji at 1/20 second.  hmm

Ian, I like that one too. The grain on the guitar has been brought out nicely.

Rocket, I had a sequence of 5 or 6 identical shots with different coloured lights almost cutting Joe in half. The colours in the current lightshow are something very special and the high level of lighting a photographer's dream. I saw the red hue on Bogie's face and made a comment on flickr about him being a little devil. lol

Sandy, you'll get some great shots when you see Joe in a couple of weeks and I can't wait to see them.  wink

Geoff, I had contemplated stitching all my Folkestone photos together to make a youtube video, but I don't have a clue how to. Your time lapse photography at Newcastle was amazing.

I've probably taken around 2,000 photos of Joe this year so may give it a rest at the next show I go to - then again, I might not.  lol

Hi Phil, you need to get hold of a decent video editing package. They're not too expensive these days for what they are capable of. The only problem is that they require huge amounts of virtual memory to work at their best. I bought the Coral Video Pro X2 package for about £80 from PC World, but found that my old PC just couldn't hack it - kept crashing - so as it was so old I upgraded to a Dell desktop quad four core processor, with squillions of RAM and a tarrabite of hard drive. It's pretty quick - did that time lapse in about two hours. would have been quicker had I known what I was doing LOL!! It's great for editing diving videos as you can fade / reduce the primary audio so you don't get the sound of breathing all the time! That's a feature that is not available on most cheaper / freeware programs. Go for it, you'll have ours of frustration / sorry fun!

Re: Oh No! Not more (great?) photos from Folkestone

Geoff, thanks for the tip. If I had the time and the inclination I might give it a go, but sadly I don't.  hmm  I don't think my 6 year old desktop would be able to cope with the demands of the software either. Thanks anyway.
