Topic: Joe, Please help with my amp search!

Hey guys (and Joe hopefully),

I have been searching and searching for a new amp for the last year now. I have played Mesas' (Lonestar Classic, Stilleto) and HK's (Triamp, Statesman) and Fenders' (Supersonic, tweed twins) and Marshalls (DSL, VM, JVM) and some Bogners and more that I can't remember lol.

I've played them and played them but none of them "sang" to me. I wanted an amp that would deliver the tones of a late 60's plexi, ala Clapton/Page/Kossoff, to the 70's JMP's and into the 80's hot rodded 800s'. Obviously the Marshalls' I tested came the closest, but they were still missing "it". We all want Joes' tone but I don't wanna copy what everyone else does to try to get his tone. The stuff I play is mostly early clapton (Bluesbreakers, Cream, D&TD), Led Zepplin, Free, AC/DC, Gary Moore, Robin Trower, Rory G, Eric Johnson, Dokken, GNR, and Joe obviously... the list could go on and on but you get the picture. 60's blues/rock and 70's/80's Blues/Rock and Hard Rock

Here are the amps that I have been looking at now and was wondering everyones opinion on them, since I have no way of playing any of them(maybe Joe could chime in). They all sound amazing...

Budda Superdrive ii 30,45,80--- http://budda.com/gear/gear.cfm?series=506
Reinhardt Storm 50----- http://reinhardtamps.com/files/Storm.html
Soultone 1987ps-- http://www.soultoneamps.com/
Soultone 1986ps
Soultone 2204ps SuperPlexi
Voodoo Amps V-Plex http://www.voodooamps.com/home/Products … fault.aspx

I am really leaning toward the Reinhardt Storm or the Voodoo V-Plex but all of them sound absolutely awesome even through crappy youtube clips and other recording i have heard of them. I always have an eye out for a Jubilee. My problem has always been that I need the amps to be able to sound well in all kinds of volume situations (home practice, jamming, gig). Maybe I just need to get a Jubilee and a hot plate....

My current gear is: 2008 MIA Strat with Clapton midboost kit and Lace Hot Golds
2008 Les Paul studio with BB 2&3s'
                               Epiphone Valve jr
                               Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classic
                               T-Rex Tonebug Reverb
                               EHX Memory Boy delay/echo/chorus

Re: Joe, Please help with my amp search!

Over the past few years I have been through: Mesa Nomad, Marshall 1987X Plexi Re-issue (with THD Hotplate), Fender Concert Reverb, Splawn Quick Rod, Dr.Z Maz Jr..  The amp that smoked all of these is a Fender 1965 Blackface Bandmaster.  Very plexi like if you play it through Celestions.  It loves pedals.  It sounds good at about any volume.  The only thing I think it would lack is headroom if you are playing large places.  Great handwired amp at a reasonable price. Have a good tech check it out and you should have a very dependable amp.  I think the 6L6's give it a more singing quality than a Marshall. If you want it to sound like a Marshall, hit it with a Fulltone OCD, if you want to get in the Dumble ballpark, hit it with a Barber Small Fry.  Throw in some delay, reverb, and chorus and you can get close to Joe's tones. But don't skimp on your speaker cabinet.  A poor quality speaker cabinet/speakers can kill a good amp.  Also, the biggest part of Joe's tone is in his fingers!

Re: Joe, Please help with my amp search!

You know what would be a sick set up; is a Marshall BB, an original Guv'nor pedal, and an 808.  Classic Marshall tones, a pedal with some atittude, and an overdrive for those smoother tones.  Add a wah and you should cover all bases.
