Whats up with the keytar player? And the 80's esque dancer? The 80's had been over for probably just under a year, she had that long to do something with her hair...

I play fenders and will always play fenders, Strats and teles. Leo fender's baby changed music. I lhave great respect for gibson's also. They are the 2 leader of the music we love. I don't know what happen with Joe and Fender but even though his shows still are tops I miss the Fenders. The beauty of seeing Joe when he played all the guitars  was like going to a guitar clinic you got to see both guitars played by a true player and artist. That is when you could see the difference in the tones. I will never forget the first time I saw Joe Live in 2003 and he broke out the gold glitter strat. It was like an orgasm for me. What fuckn tone.... Fenders are so versatile, look at the best blues rockers on the planet, Jeff Beck and Clapton both started on GIbsons and went to Fenders. The Fender gibson debate will always be there. If you want to see a cool movie check this one out. Features are very own guitar hero JOE B.  Fender vs Gibson: the movie

I understand Joe's justifiable beef with Fender, which was a totally personal insult; but you CANNOT deny Fender's unquantifiable impact on music!!
Fenders are GREAT instruments! Joe, himself ,has done some unreal work on Fenders. Joe's playing  on a Strat is nowhere near a copy of the late great SRV. About the only thing in common they have is the 5 pentatonic scale notes that both of them use!

I LOVE Strats!! There .....I said it!!!

AND I love Joe's music!!:

Like peanut butter and chocolate..........the two CAN get along!!

those are some beutiful pictures.

I've got to admit it, I own 2 strats but neither are stock. I know very few people who have stock strats or LP's, but Fenders were always supposed to be the affordable instrument... but they're working on pricing themselves out of the market with this 30% increase. Not what Leo envisioned... but he bailed a long time ago. I've also got to admit that I miss seeing/hearing Joe play strats. They were a key part in his sound and tone in the past. Pain and Sorrow just wouldn't be the same, no matter how good that LP's bridge pup sounds !

I could not agree with you more. Seeing Pain and sorrow live at Shank hall with the Strat is one of my favorite moments in music. Long live Fenders.

Re: I'm Fed up with the F word nonsense so.....

I'm not all that fussy what I try to play on so long as it isn't cheap mass produced junk.
Last year I bought a deluxe power strat in black, I am a big SRV fan so my first real guitar was a fender.  Sadly I'm not all that good, last week I bought a Les Paul Epiphone chameleon finish. For the price I cant knock it.
I like my fender a lot, i have the extra light strings on it right now (going to get it adjusted for some higher gauge next time it needs restringing) and it's very easy to make silly noises on. I keep it tuned flat and play regular stuff on my epiphone. Both have very good and different pro's to them.

I forgot to point out though! Whilst I like my fender, as soon as it came out of the box I noticed some kind of varnish blemish on the neck, its a cosmetic thing.  I also play a lot when I'm not plugged in and theres an awful lot of fret buzzing especially 6-3 strings. The amp doesnt pick it up but its rather annoying. Bridge needs raising slightly which is the main reason I havent gone up a gauge of strings (I dont want to mess with it, last time I messed i ruined it lol).

The epiphone has no problems like this but the action down at the bridge end of the neck is a little bit too high for my liking. Again, when the strings need replacing I will take it to a luthier for adjustment.

I am a complete novice and so long as its comfortable to play and has the tones im looking for im not fussy.  The strat is more comfortable with its womanly contours and cut outs, the epiphone can be uncomfortable for example when I have my feet up and the body is resting on me, the hard edges with the weight can dig a bit. But hey you cant have everything, for my ability and practise times the two axes I have cover all the bases for me. Guess I'm split right down the middle, love my Gibson/gibson style and love my strats too!

Time to Fess up.....who owns a Fender? What have you got? And do you agree that Fender can and do make some F-ing good gear. Enough of this bloody F word nonsense guys!

I have a Custom Shop '63 Closet Classic Sonic Blue Strat and an old Japanese '50's reissue Strat.

What's your's?

Geoff

Well I play a 74 Silverface Twin but it's hardly a Fender anymore, lol. Its been converted to EL34s,it's no longer a master vol amp,the ext speaker output has been replaced w a pot in the back for mid boost and its been handwired like a Plexi by Robert Henson here in Memphis. That's about as "Fender" as I get, lol. Gibson on the guitars wink
