Topic: Congrats to Robert Plant & Allison Krauss

I guess saying no to a Zeppelin reunion paid off.

Congrats to Robert Plant for mopping up on the big Grammys.

I thought that was pretty cool too Nick.   That was a nice little jam that they did.

Also, congrats to BB King for winning a Grammy.

Re: Congrats to Robert Plant & Allison Krauss

Allison Krauss at the age of 37 has 26 Grammys to her name. Can anyone honestly say that she is worthy of them all??

In my view it undermines the achivement of winning one if they are just handed out to the same people, time after time. No better than those blues awards that are regulalry criticised on here.

Re: Congrats to Robert Plant & Allison Krauss

Alison deserves all the credit she is due. For years she was pigeonholed as just a Bluegrass performer with her band Union Station. Then AKUS crossed over to the C&W ranks winning grammies in that category. Her work on the Oh Brother! soundtrack gained her more attention and now her vocal skills are in demand from all corners of the business. I've got a Phish CD that she appears on and she's a damn good fiddle player to boot. The fact that she's winning Grammys in different genres is a tribute to her talent. The good news for Bluegrass bands nominated this year was that AKUS didn't release a CD last year, 'cuz everytime they do they win.

BTW/FYI Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder took home the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album this year.

Re: Congrats to Robert Plant & Allison Krauss

I love Alison Krauss's  music - she's recorded so many great albums and duets that I've lost count.  I saw a teenaged Alison years ago with Union Station and knew then her star would out-grow the world of Bluegrass.  Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite rock bands and I respect Robert Plant as one the genre's finest singers, but I just couldn't get into their duet album.  All the songs sounded the same to me and a little forced.  I noticed last night that Alison looked uncomfortable on the podium with Plant and T-Bone.  Did anyone else pick up on that?
I missed Ricky Skaggs getting another Grammy, but I'm sure he deserved it!  Also, wasn't that Orianthi playing lead guitar with Carrie Underwood?  Man, that is one Hot babe!  Can play pretty good too.

You didn't miss it Curby, the Bluegrass award never makes the TV show. Maybe next year they'll cut back on so much Rap & Hip Hop after the producers had to scramble at the last minute to replace Chris Brown & Rihanna. Brown was being booked on charges of an alleged assault on Rihanna ( I would assume his now ex-girlfriend) which occurred earlier in the day.

Re: Congrats to Robert Plant & Allison Krauss

Alison Krauss is an excellent musician. All credit and due respect to her for being such a fine talent who displays great taste and judgement in her endeavours. AND....strange how sometimes she can look drop dead gorgeous and other times....well, er...not.

Re: Congrats to Robert Plant & Allison Krauss

gsj,

You're not the first person that's made that observation about Alison's appearance.  She did a video with John Waite where she looks both pretty and matronly at the same time and I find that extremely attractive.  On her best day she'll never win a beauty contest, but imo being beautiful is more than having a pretty face.  All that girl has to do is start singing and she has me every time.

Re: Congrats to Robert Plant & Allison Krauss

I first heard of Alison via of Bonnie Raitt.  I think she is hugely talented, even if I'm not a big fan of bluegrass, I respect her talent and versatility, IMO her versatility just showcases her musicianship.  (I believe she holds some record for female Grammys & different genres) Also, I think she is very pretty.  And from a woman's point of view, I had a similar conversation about Diane Lane, with my girlfriend (we both think sometimes she gorgeous and maybe soimetimes she's not all dolled up etc. looks pretty normal, like us big_smile and then there's my hubby, who thinks she is totally hot...think Unfaithful...

I didn't watch all of the Grammy's, but had a little dispute with one of my older brothers about Coldplay and their wins with a song that's involved in a plagarism lawsuit!!  DOES ANYONE ELSE THINK THAT'S IRONIC??? (Of course innocent until proven guilty)  Anyway, my brother was defending them and went back in time to George Harrison's lawsuit.  I got an e-mail from him today which said he was listening to NPR the day after the Grammy's and they were discussing this and played Coldplay's version of Viva, Satriani's version and then played a Latin version from 2002, interesting....Which kinda' goes back to Keith Richards comment from long ago...yeah, everyone steals from everyone...  lol

Re: Congrats to Robert Plant & Allison Krauss

The Grammys have really lost it's value when you give 5 grammy to this and name it Album of the Year and Record of the Year.

This album was a very bland album and the vocals were okay but they really were nothing steller.  For me, that is exactly why it shouldn't even be nominated.  The songs were simplistic and so were the vocals.  There is alot more that they could have done vocally that didn't get done.  It really was a boring, mundane album with sub-par songs. The worst part is the Record of the Year.  That song is closer to worst song of the year than anywhere near the best song of the year.  How could that song even be nominated.  Look at all the great songs that never even got a nod or nomination and you give it to that.

Well I'll give a nod to a song from a different year in that genre that is better than anything on that entire album and has a great vocal:

lol, yeah it was like that tongue

As for duets with zep members I'll take these two.  This album and song would be more of what I am looking at for awards.  This song from a different year was better than all the songs nominated for this year's song by a mile.  The arrangement is flawless.  Same with the vocals.

Enjoy Brett

And what else can be said about Paul's singing:
