Just got some interesting news. It appears that Davy Knowles will be opening a number of shows for Jeff Beck, including the show that I'll be at in Milwaukee April 18th.

Great news Roy. I've missed Davy! Jeff Beck is a better influence than Kid Rock. To say the least. I can't wait to hear about the new band and songs. I hope they upgraded him to a tour bus instead of the econovan! Tell him "Hi"...Cathy

I've asked him on his Facebook page if he'll be making the trip over here for Beck's UK dates.....we can but hope!!
Unfortunately for lots of us Jeff Beck's tour is already sold out - I know Boston was sold out almost as soon as it came up. Awful lot of stuff going on in April already for me - Derek Trucks, Joe twice, Kenny Chesney [my husband's choice] and then RAH. It's gonna be a busy month.

Great news. I see from the web sight and Myspace looks like Peter Frampton is sort of mentoring Davy now. Wonder if he had a hand in setting this up?
P.S. Why would Kid Rock be a bad influence? When your young is the best time to sew those wild oats and I'm sure Kid Rock could take them alot of places to do some sewing!!!!!!!!!!!

Nic, I'm not sure Davy has had time getting all of the members of a new band together yet. I know he's been working on a new album and for a time, was out in L.A. They do have some tour dates scheduled, so I guess he'll have everything straightened out by then. I'm pretty sure this will be an acoustic set for the opener.
Cathy, I definitely will say hello to Davy for you. I know his time will be very pressed as it was when they were opening for Gov't Mule, but we're hoping we can tip one together. Hey, maybe he can come and sit with my sister Lynn at our table and watch Mr. Beck perform.

Sis I think it's more about the exposure than being influenced by who he opens for. The Kid Rock/Skynyrd tour was a huge oppurtunity as was Gov't Mule and now Jeff Beck. Davy's on the fast track it would seem, but I've hung out with him on 5 different occasions in the past two years and I haven't noticed any change from the first time to the last. I know it's the Mother/Nurse in you that is concerned for his well being and that's why we love you.

What exactly does it mean that Davy opening for Jeff Beck are Davy Knowles solo as oppossed to the Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam dates?
I just went to the Davy Knowles myspace (as opposed to the BDS myspace I usually check). Davy is doing a solo acoustic set opening for Jeff Beck.
True confession time..I like the MTV show "Run's House". Kid Rock came to visit and he's...um...out of control. I agree that Davy should have fun, but Kid Rock fun could have involved too many things with long term consequences. Yes Dawg, I guess it's that maternal thing. I agree touring with Mule, Skynyrd, Beck, and even KR offers exposure. I just feel better when he's with those that have lived and learned. I think their sober guidance will serve him better. I'm also curious about the new band. I'll let you know after the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival unless we hear before then. Cathy

I think you have to look at who hes being exposed to. you expose brilliant writing to trash at the demoltion derby whose preferred reading material is the latest copy of juggs, i don't think they are going to receive it well. consequently i don't think the average, or even above average kid rock concert attendee is going to receive back door slam well enough to buy an album or a ticket to a headlining show. not even if there are 50000 people in the crowd.

Remember Suhl Lynyrd Skynyrd was half that tour bill. Their fans got a lot of exposure to KWS back when he was in a relationship with Ronnie's daughter Melody. Davy told me last fall that he hung out with the Skynyrd guys way more than the Kid. As Madonna once said, "Even bad press is good press." So I guess you could say any exposure is good too.

calling that cover band lynyrd skynyrd is a joke. i have never agreed with the any bad press is good press line. the best i can say is the tour didn't hurt the band and if he met some friends, good for him

My point exactly, as far as Skynyrd is concerned, the music speaks for itself. What about all the other '70's bands that carry on their tradition with only sometimes one original member?????????????????? It's what you make it.

GREAT news! I also see on Davy's MySpace page that he's opening for Jeff Beck in Oakland on April 23. We already have tickets to that show!!! Fabulous!
