Leider nicht, aber laß uns wissen, wie´s war.

Like I already said per mail ... can´t be there unfortunately. But I hope you´ll have fun and Peter is in a good shape. You owe us a review afterwards!!
Eva
I had Marco from www.bluesmagazine.nl on the phone tonight and he just saw Peter Green in Eindhoven.
It wasn't what he hoped for. peter made hardly any contact with the people, just sat on a chair at the side of the stage and didn't play much.
He will write a review with his famous pictures on his website.

*GLLBBBB* I hope he was in a bad mood?!
But that's what I fear too - will he play as great as years before or will you see that hes getting old?...
Still I would go if it was not to far from home.
He IS a legend!!

Yeah of course, I bought my ticket and I'll use it
Peter Green certainly is a legend, as regular forum members will know I've spoke highly of the work he did in his creative peak in late 1960s and 1970. His work from the 1980s and with the Splinter Group in the late 1990 and 2000s is ok, but lacks the creative spark he had in his prime. I do wonder if he really should be touring (and the motives of those that benefit from him doing so).

The last time when I put this question was two years ago after a Johnny Winter show. But then I´ve heard that he´s again in a much better shape meanwhile. So you never know.

Although its on my doorstep (sort of) I won't be going. I caught him some years ago, I think it was not long after Gary Moore did his 'Blues for Greeny' album. That got me interested in his music again, but it was very disappointing. He had a good band with him, but he was just a part of that and seemed indifferent to it all, although he seemed happy enough in himself. There was hardly any contact directly with the audience.
Didn't he sign all his royalties away? I think the touring provides him (and perhaps others with his care in mind) with an income so maybe thats why it still goes on, although I found it not particularly inspiring. Of course, that was some years ago. It may be different now. I hope so. I'll await yor review with interest!
Aynley Lister is at the DBC in Hamburg soon. Maybe I see you for that one!

Hi Mike,
I had the same experience some years ago in London. Maybe I would have gone to the show if it would be on my doorsteps. But Nürnberg to Hamburg is -as you know- quite a distance. I have seen Aynsley last year when he did a good show. I´ll see him again in May one day before Joe in RAH. Maybe we´ll meet there.
Günter
It was mostly as Andre said... but some things were a little bit different.
But now I have to sleep, in 6-7 hours I have to get up and go to school... Yeah thats the school-day-blues
I'll tell u more in a few days...
Didn´t SOMEONE say he wanted to write a review of this show?! Hint, hint, hint ..........
Eva
Hallo Eva,
Marco has great pictures on his site www.bluesmagazine.nl .
There are 3 short reviews from fans in Dutch.................
When nothing comes from hamburg i'll translate them tomorrow and put it overhere.
Andre Wittebroek
Uh. Yeah. There was something I wanted to do...
Well, I think there isn't very much to tell. The keyboarder and the drummer were great, and the bass player, too.
But these two guitarrists - at least Peter was the better one of them
Before I write down something about Peter Green I wanna say something about this rythm guitarist (don't know whats his name). I don't know if he only had a bad day, but it was awful... he only played chors, after maybe five or six songs he ripped of the 2nd string. At the 2nd song, he killed the 1st string, then he wanted to choose another guitar "on the fly" - he untacked the strap of the guitar, got the new one - and werent able to fasten the strap to the other guitar... ..... uhhmmmm..... FORTUNALY THEY HAD A GREAT KEYBOARD PLAYER WHO SAVED THE SITUATION! He played a great improvised solo!
Ok, back to Peter Green.
It's right, he is old, and he plays slow and he moves slow. But he can play. He played absolutely clean, there was one timing mistake rightly at the beginning, but after that he played perfectly. They played mostly slow songs, but there was no life in them. Peter played the songs, but there was no "great feeling". In one song he played slide, in one song he played blues harp, in all other songs he played chors and slow melody lines.
The only great dynamical moments were in the keyboard solos.
For around an hour Peter Green played very slow and energy-saving but for the last half hour he played some faster songs and solos.
Ok, thats what I remember.
In conclusion, I also have to say, that they played waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to quiet. If you stood in the back of the room, you couldn't here very much of them...
Sounds like you made the best out of an awful show. So there is really a lot of meaning in Greenose´s question if he really should be touring.
Thank you for sharing
Günter
Thanks for the review ... sounds like it was a good decision to not drive to Hamburg for that one.
Eva
Right.
