photopete - I sent you an e-mail as requested - checked out your website - nice pictures!

mbcl - when asking about light-metering I was wondering if people used spot, center weighted, or the "average-balanced one"

Sandy and for others

I use manual metering for 99%, I don't have to think that way.

If you use auto there are many elements that come into play that may change exposure.
I prefer to watch facial tone and adjust while shooting to keep that consistent.
That way the background / foreground or anything else becomes second priority

When I do use auto, I select shutter priority and let camera pick aperture.
The metering is set to center weight and I fill most of that area with subject I want exposed.
If you use spot - it will look at exposure in smaller area, which can work. I just prefer more area for exposure.

When you select matrix or average all - it takes into account fore and background light difference and want to balance.
A dark background and brightly lit Joe would over expose his skin tone and washout texture.

Hope that helps.

Johnny A played with Joe on Your Funeral My Trial and Blues Deluxe.  Pretty cool watching those two play together.

Yeah, so I'm a little late posting these. I have pics from BB King's Oct. 24 2008, and Northampton 26 2009. Check out the set list at Northampton. I almost had to lay on the stage to get this photo I was stretched out so far. Took the picture with my iphone, so it's a little fuzzy, but Story of a georgian b____ goddess??? (quarryman). Too bad the drunks in front of us were so rude. Joe even gave them a salute at one point. Wish he had done Feelin' Good from the new album. Feelin' Good is in my opinion the best song on TBOJH.  Last Kiss and Story of a Quarryman in my opinion could have been left out of Northampton's set. BB's on the other hand was out of hand. Great great show. Wild to see people spilling onto 42'nd street after the show with looks of "deer in the headlights", bewildered. Hope to see Joe at Ridgefield Playhouse in the fall.
