Topic: PUT IT UP FRONT!

Went into my favorite music store down the street....wanted to see how the TBOJH was doing for sales....looked at all the nhew releases and NOTHING!....I got the wife with me and she knows when I'm pissed..."where the ******* manager at?".....it's a new guy with makeup on his face and pants way to tight, I already had made up my mind I didnt like him....he's never heard of JB, and they only had one new cd in the rock/pop section....I gave him a quick history lesson and how well JB has done in the store with prior releases....he looked disinterested, but I never slowed down a bit....told him why TBOJH needs to be up front with all the new releases, and more inventory is needed....I left in a bad mood, and a wife who tried to cool me off...I'll give the kid a few days and go back into the store and see if he does the right thing....

Re: PUT IT UP FRONT!

What really aggrevated me was when I went into a Guitar Center last year to pick up some items and they had the book with the JB tabs in it. When I went to the check out,  I said something to the effect of "I'll never play 1/10th as good as him"; the guy working the check out had never heard of Joe. I just walked out shaking my head.

BTW: I STILL have not received my TBOJH CD. I'm glad that I did download it off ITunes last week. I burned a CD of it Sunday so I can play it in the truck. And the "Chains & Things" does have that weird clipping (seems to be mostly on the right channel).

Shred, you get fitted for that strait jacket yet for RAH? lol LOL  Can't wait!

Re: PUT IT UP FRONT!

My local branch of HMV had half a dozen copies of LFNIP on an end of aisle display last weekend.  Which was great but they were displayed fourth from the top, so I rehoused them to second from top (which meant moving Robert Plant and Alison Krauss down a couple).  I may get banned as I forget sometimes about CCTV ....    wink

Going to visit this weekend to see what they've done with TBOJH and if it's not to my liking ......

Re: PUT IT UP FRONT!

Gee Dave,

You're starting to worry me a little. I think the next time you show up at that store they may have a picture of you from their surveilance camera with the note: "WARNING, DERANGED BONAMASSA SUPPORTER!" lol

I do know what you're saying though. With as much publicity that Joe is getting, how can stores not be stocked up with his music? That really boggles my mind. hmm

Hey Michael just in case, can you sit between Dave and I at the RAH show? And Dave, don't forget to take your medicine. wink

Just kiddin' ya Bubba! smile

I came through Stansted Airport today and the HMV store had TBOJH at No. 19 in the chart! (out of top 50) so it was right up front and doing well. So nuthin' to complain about there.....

Re: PUT IT UP FRONT!

Thomas, Rudi's son and my family too works in Apeldoorn in a record shop.
He always puts Joe in front for many years now and mostly plays Joe in the shop.
He must have sold hundreds in all those years!!

Saturday a week ago at the release date they got 10 Joe TBOJH cd''s.
He started playing Joe and  5 customers said: Who is this and they all bought one!
He sold the rest to Joefans including me of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the way aha, aha,I like it aha, aha!

Re: PUT IT UP FRONT!

Things have improved a lot here in Germany ... when LFNIP came out, I went to the store a week before the release to ask if they´d have it on the day of release FOR SURE. The guy at the store said yes and so I asked how many copies they´d have then. He had the nerve to tell me "One copy" ... I said "Dude, you better order some more, I alone want 3 of them!" lol They did have a bit more than one copy then ....
TBOJH is another story, they had at least 10 copies on release day and seem to have sold a lot of them on first day already...

Shred, way to go! big_smile

Geko, Saturn in Nürnberg has got a lot of TBOJH - as well digipack and the normal CD-, but usually they have got a very poor blues offer. Müller has got a much better choice.

Re: PUT IT UP FRONT!

Ahh, the role I choose.

Joe is an independant artist right?  So, a tremendous amount of this comes down to Joe, and Roy and how many were manufactured and distributed for a first printing.

Blaming a record store for not having an indie record, is like blaming McDonalds for not having Vegan food.  Sometimes, its just not available.

How many were manufactured?  Who is the distributor?

What kind of market are you in?

Where did Joe and Roy decide to send them?

Just another perspective to consider.

Re: PUT IT UP FRONT!

Universal distribution for this album. IDM up till now. I think it is a case of the record buyer for the outlets. They order them. You try to convince the brick and mortar to stock the record. They have to buy it wholesale. If it doesn't sell they can send it back. The Label either indie or major can choose to pay for placement. For example on the end of the aisle.

Record stores aren't going to load up on stock they don't know will sell. Some stores like my local Barnes and Noble has a order 1 and replace when it sells policy for Joe's catalog. I went into a locally owned record store last week and they had ordered ten copies. There were four left. Trust me J&R didn't send that store those copies out of the blue. They were ordered and payed for by the owner operator. He had demand and he stocked it.

The best way to get the store to stock bonamassa is to ask them to order it. Talk to the buyer. convince them that it will sell. What sets J&R apart from other indie labels is their distribution company. Universal is a major distributor. IDM was too but Universal is bigger.
