Topic: Marshall Vintage Modern

What do you guys think of the Marshall Vintage Modern?
Is this a good amp to create some Joe-like sounds?
Joe?:d

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

Joe has said in the past he loves the sound of the clean channel.  I think it would make an excellent amp for those sounds.  I personally would pair it with another amp or I'd use a nice overdrive pedal in front of it to get your leads.

Overall I just wish they had a more useable lead channel.  It seems like its a one trick pony.  Nothing wrong with that in certain situations.  But If I had it it would be clean all the time and I'd run a Fulltone fulldrive or OCD in front of it.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

It's an 'old school' style amp. You have to use your guitar's controls to get the best from it and it will show every screw-up that you make.....but it will also make you shine too when you use it right.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

Hey.

I have a marshall vintge modern 50w combo, with a tokai les paul .

The amp is brilliant and i'm sure you can pull a good Joe tone but i was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions as to what settings to use?

Even a rough guide to getting close to his sound would be brilliant!!!

Marshall's are definatley the business!!!

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

Hi

My settings are:

Reverb: full on (I don't have a delay/reverb pedal yet, so I use all of the reverb of the amp..)
Master Volume: 9 o'clock
Presence: 3 o'clock
Bass: noon
Middle: full
Treble: noon
Low Dynamic Range
Mid Boost off
Detail: 2 o'clock
Body: noon

So the sound of the amp is set clean..than I use a Maxon OD808 (Tubescreamer) which is set like this:

Volume: full on
Gain: full on
Tone: 9 o'clock

What are your settings?

The reverb of the VM is the one thing that I don't like - it's just too digital sounding - I really wish they put a reverb tank in there... guess you can't get everything

Other than that, the VM is probably my favorite amp right now (along with a Mesa Lonestar and Stiletto) - it's just got that great clear, crisp tone that a lot of other amps don't have - it's not muddied at all by a ton of distortion etc.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

So, Pieter-Jan just so I'm clear on this.....you asked what we thought of the Marshall Vintage Modern (it's not a 'VM' anymore than a Road Worn Strat is a 'RW') and if it was possible to get a 'Joe' type sound from this amp.....and you already own one??

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

I asked you guys what you thought about the amp..at that time I didn't have one yet..but I've bought one just now yeah..

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

Cool. Can you get 'the' tone?

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern

Of course you can't get the exact 'joe-tone'..but it's a great amp for marshall+les paul bluesrock sounds!!
The high dynamic range isn't really great..but the low dynamic range sounds really good!
Joe used a combo version on the Jools Holland show!
