Topic: National Anthem at next pep rally...

I got the invite from a friend of mine in ASB to play the National Anthem at the next school pep rally. I'm really psyched for this, I'll be playing for literally almost every person in school, that's just under 3,000 people! My guitar teacher and I are gonna put our heads together to come up with something cool that's not out-of-control Hendrix but enough so it's not boring for me and at least demonstrates a little bit of my ability...what do you guys think? Ideas?

Danny...it's the National Anthem.  It does not require noodling.  I would be impressed with your talent if you played it straight and made me feel it.

  Ditto.  Drives me nuts when people sing or play the anthem and they break away too far from how it's supposed to sound.  I saw Zakk Wylde do his version at a Mets game several years ago and a lot of folks were 'booing' it after he did some some fills that didn't really fit.  I thought it sounded pretty good though.  His later versions (look on youtube for the L.A. Kings game) sound pretty cool however.

It actually just got moved to March 13th, which is kind of lame, but it gives my dad more time to plan around things so he can make it out to make sure we get this filmed. It'll be cool because there are actually 2 pep rallies. The school has roughly 3,000 kids in it so they need to split it up, but I'll get to play it twice.

I just got back from playing...it was LOUD. I had my 410 Fender Blues Deville turned up to 5, which is louder than I've ever played before, but MAN did it sound good. I had that, my Les Paul, my wah, Tube Driver, Destination Rotation, and delay. Really cool stuff...

My dad taped it but hes got the camera now and he went to work after coming to see me so I should be able to get it up by late tonight. He and some of my friends were taking still frames as well so I'll post things as soon as I get them.

Edit: Ah nevermind, the camera was in my dad's car here at home! I don't know how to get it up on Youtube quite yet but I was going over it and frankly I'm a little disappointed...I wasn't playing as cleanly as I thought and it sounded a little thin from what the camera pickup up, and there's a couple over bends, but oh well, I still had a blast doing it.
