Re: Seasick Steve

He's only been around for what seems like 5 minutes...and yet I saw a clip of him playing the Royal Albert Hall last year?? What gives there??

I like him, and I like what he's doing for the blues and for real music in general, but it just annoyed me a little when I see Joe working his tail off for all these years, and is only just now getting the honour of playing at the sacred venue!

Just my opinion....for what it's worth.

"The sacred venue" - I like that ... lol

I think the thing with hypes is - they go by as quickly as they showed up ... Joe has a base of loyal fans, growing steadily, who won´t forget about him after having bought 2 albums. The good aritsts who stick around for years and decades haven´t always been hyped, but they´ve always had that kind of fan base.

Personally I don´t know how long Seasick Steve himself is around, but he´s good and he´s radical - that´s probably why he gets all the media attention. Because he´s like the "antithesis" to lollypop world.

Re: Seasick Steve

I have to agree. Seasick Steve has introduced a whole bunch of the younger generation to blues based material which I applaud. Hell he's got it played on prime time radio here in the UK - which is no bad thing, in fact it's a blessing for him and the likes of Joe. How he's done it is as much a surprise to him as it is to most people here. I wish him good luck. I have his album and as a product it's OK, but not the kind of music I could play over and over. The last track still leaves me wondering????

Regarding Joe's new album - if Seasick Steve can get on daytime radio on the playlist for every show, it's my job and the job of everyone on here to write to every show's presenter / producer to get Joe's latest album accepted as album of the week, with a different track played each day of the week. Now THAT, would lift Joe's radio profile a whole bunch. Strike whilst the irons hot and get TBOJH rail tie nailed into every shows e-mail address

Re: Seasick Steve

Dont worry, i'ill just have to wear my Manu top at the Amsterdam gig:D That should mix it up a bit.
Back on topic, I have seen Steve a few times in the 80s in tiny venues in the Washington area. Seen him in the UK a couple of times too,  recently he did a awesome show at Wolverhampton Civic Hall (Joe is there in April). It was an electrifying show.  He wasnt picked up in the USA but has been noticed here big time. He sound is great, opening chords get right into to you. He tells a good story and really does dress like a hilly billy each and every day.
In washington I (amongst others) had a drink with him, his life stories are great to hear.
If you have not seen him, go, drinks lots of Jack Daniels, stomp your foot and holler.
Being totally non PC, his last concert was full single hot totty. Doesnt work when i am in my dungerees:D
Why is he so big here. The simple fact is we aint see anything like him since ZZtop.

Re: Seasick Steve

It's very encouraging to see lots of youngsters jumping on the Seasick Steve band wagon, the same thing happened in the Sixties with John Mayal's Bluesbreakers and then Fleetwood Mac - so this could do Joe a lot of good in the long run, not to mention bands like my own. The fact is - it's mostly young people in the UK music pubs and unless they dig the blues you are not going to get many gigs playing blues/ blues rock.

Re: Seasick Steve

I've seen Steve five times in the last eighteen months. Never fails to impress.

And like Joe he has sold out the RAH.

Perhaps they could do a show together

Re: Seasick Steve

From what I've seen - this Seasick Steve doesn't play with a bassman, just a drummer.

Which is a shame, Jeff, because you could be in a blues band where the guitarist is way uglier than you. Imagine.

cool

Re: Seasick Steve

I got some nice photos from his Wolvehampton Civic Hall gig, the one of his son playing guitar just won me £400 in Photography vouchers:D (I had worked on it some and converted to black and white).

I got front row seats for Joe at the same place so should get some great shots.
