Whats the best wireless system out there?

Looking at
Sennheiser ew172G2 (the only difference I see between this and the 372 is that one scans channels for you)
Shure ULXS14
Shure SLX


Or are all of them tone sucking monsters that I don't even want to consider?

I used a Sennheiser for a while and quickly changed back to cables. I didn't experience tone suck but it added so much gain and by reducing the 'squelch' made the guitar unplayable.

By all means try before you buy but for me now it's cables all the way.

You may want to try the beyer dynamic Opus 900. This wireless doesn't gainstage before the amp, it is also the best sounding of all the wireless out their.

I'm not a player so I can't give you specs. about it's performance..but..my friend got this for X-Mas and it looks like bluetooth...very cool....Cathy

Wireless systems are kind of cool at first but in the long run are a pain to use and change the sound for the worse.  They made my guitar sound like active pickups, TONS more gain and no dynamics.  I personally can't stand the things but if I played metal or heavy rock I probably wouldn't mind because I'd be using EMG's anyway!  No offense for anyone using EMGs I just hate them.

In the '90's I used a (forget the model number) the top of the line rack mount Shure system.  It added a lot of color to the sound..mostly hi end which at the time considering my tone was darker-appealed to me.  So I thought.  After a couple of years my ears acclimated to the sound...either I compenstaed by rolling off the hi's on the amp or just got used to it. Once my transmitter went down and had to go wired.  I couldn't believe the difference in tone and dynamics...I never went back.

That being said, Peter Stroud (Sherly Crow and others) is a true tone guru. I believe he's behind helping to design either Divided by 13 or 65 amps...forget which.  Anyway, he's a road warrior and tone guru.  he SWEARS by the Line 6 Digital Wireless system.  He recently did a article in Premiere Guitar which he addressed this very issue.  Him and his tech extensively A/B wired-wireless and he swears the Line 6 is more transparent than wired with the Line 6 system.

That said again...which comes first as far as TRUE TONE?  It's up to your ears.  Anyway, the Line 6 came very very highly recommended by Peter
