Topic: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

Derek's album was finally released today and the anticipation I had was warranted.  The Allman/Clapton influence is noticeable throughout and there's even a little Delaney & Bonnie vibe thrown in for good measure.  Susan Tedeschi never sounded better and the addition of Doyle Bramhall ll along with Mike Mattison makes Already Free Derek's best effort to date.  Best songs so far are: "Our Love", "Maybe This Time", "Back Where I Started", and the incredible "Sweet Inspiration".  Oh, I forgot the pre-release gem, "Down In the Flood", that may be the album's highlight.

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

Yes Dereks most listanable release to date. Much more bluesy. More consistant songs. I liked Sonlgines but there was only 4 or 5 that grabed me. This one you can play straight through. The latter part is pretty mellow. The label has done a good job of promotion. It has as high as numer 5 on Amazon. I got it at Best Buy with 3 bonus tracks. $9.99. If your expecting ripping guitar and slide work you will be dissapointed. A very subdued Derek.

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

I ordered mine online off his website.  $20 and you got an extra cd insert that has the bands autographs on it.  I don't think you can get it now but for an extra $10 its worth Dereks signature.  As far as the sounds go on this CD its far less of a jam then their preivous efforts.  Theres so much more direction focused on the songs themselves then the band showing you how good they can improvise and I love the growth that they show on this CD.  Derek of course plays beautiful lead lines and with the help of his Wife and Doyle Bramhall I'd have to rank this his best yet.  Hands down if you get a CD by someone other then Joe Bonamassa this year pick this one up!

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

I haven't been able to get into Derek until this CD. I love the vibe. I can't get enough. Down in The Flood is killer.

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

Haven't picked this up yet, but when I get the chance, I will definitely do so.

For me, Songlines is my favorite DTB disc. It's got some cool stuff on there.

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

Mine is in the mail, should be here today.  I have been a fan of DTB since I first saw them in 2001.  Derek has been one of my biggest influences on the guitar, but not just as a blues player.  Through Derek's music I have learned about Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, The Meters, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Skip James, King Curtis, Donny Hathaway and many more.  That guy has big ears and a spiritual sense for the music.  I am excited for this new record.

Oh, that sounds good .... I know where I´m going tomorrow - straight to the record shop. smile

I´m assuming it´s also been released here in Europe yesterday?!

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

Picked this up yesterday - easy album to listen to.  Thought some of the vocals overpowered the guitar a bit much but still good.  Actually got the last one in the store - the guy at Newbury Comics actually had to go look out back for mine.  He said they were surprised by how many people came in looking for it.  So, maybe there is hope for good music in this world.

On another note, just found out today that DTB is playing at the new House of Blues in Boston on April 2.  This is the night before I go see Joe in Woonsocket-should I "pull a Libby" and go to this, too?  I guess I'll wait and check my work schedule before deciding.  I haven't seen Derek live in a couple of years, and I'm guessing Susan will probably be there, too, since she is a Boston girl!  Decisions, decisions.  I think I go to more concerts now than I did when I was in my teens and twenties!

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

After five days of listening to Already Free, I 'm just shaking my head over it's brilliance.  This album's quite a bit better than Songlines and I think it's because there's more Susan Tedeschi.  She adds a texture missing from other efforts.  Doyle Bramhall's presense also elevates the creative vibe that permeates throughout.  DTB captured lightning in a bottle on this cd!

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

Dereck's Band and Susan will be on the cruise. I'm very excited about this! I'm glad to hear all the positive reviews and I'll report back. Thanks, Cathy

What a great album, I like Down in the flood a lot!!!

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

listening to it right now.  so far it is very very good.  i have always known he was capable of putting out an album like this, was just awaiting the day.  now it has come, and good one it is.  down in the flood is a bob dylan cover, and a very good one at that.

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

This album has cracked the Top Ten Selling Albums on iTunes (#8) overall (#2 in Rock catergory)...this is HUGE for a blues guitar record.  Derek has finally done it.

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

Derek will be on Bob and Tom this Thursday Morning. Not sure what hour. Bob and Tom are a syndicated morning show out of Indianapolis. Need to get Joe on there.

Re: Derek Trucks Band's Already Free released today!

I got my copy on vinyl. Sound quality and the recording itself is outstanding. I read an interview somewhere with him, and he goes on about the studio he built at home. How he procured all the vintage mics, old Neve console, just a real vibey groovy kind of place he has created at home. The guy has got it all happening, and seems like a nice person to boot.

Now that "Already free" is finally released in Germany too, I just listened to it for the first time today. I think it´s outstanding and BY FAR the best album they ever released. I felt like summer as soon as track 1 started ... it´s got some kind of "lightness". smile
My favourite up to now is "Down don´t bother me", great tune ...
