Topic: CHORDS

Does anybody now the names of these chords? I have to write a 'johnmayer-like popsong' for school play..and the piano player asked me what the chords were..but uhm..

Well, you could name them a couple of different things. But, I'd probably approach them as:

    Aadd9    AM9   A6/9   Aadd9b13

    So, variations on an A Chord. The last one is kinda "Tangy". So, proceed with caution, over that one! wink

    If you want to stay a little more Diatonic to A, maybe change the last Chord to one of these:

B/0
G/2
D/2
A/0
E/X


   Or

e/0
B/0
G/1
D/2
A/0
E/X

Or even:

e/0
B/0
G/1
D/4
A/0
E/X

Now, you could also do this:

e/0
B/0
G/2
D/2
A/0

    Maybe add some Bass Notes, on the low E String?

Pieter-Jan,

  What makes this very nice sounding guitar piece a nightmare to label as individual chords is the fact that you are employing what are called pedal tones around a set of descending 3rds. The open A on the bottom and the B and E strings on the top are the pedal tones. The descending 3rds start with A and C# then G# and B then  F# and A then F nat. and A. The real problem with trying to name these chords for your piano player is the fact that you drop the 3rd in most of them. If you don't care about that then I'd go with Buddas' tags.

  If your piano player reads music the easiest thing to do would be to jot them down on paper for him (or have a music teacher do it) and then play the piece for him so he can feel the vibe of the tune.

I went with the chord names Budda give me..but the piano player is only going to play some bass notes and octave-melody-lines in the chorus to make that stand out more..

The play is about a beginning rock-band and I wrote 5 tunes for it, it'll be recorded so I will post it on youtube..

The chords are simply A E D Dm.  (actually D6 and Dm6)  But he can just play the  A E D Dm.  I wouldn't get too technical with tring to name everything off of the A root.  The open B and E's   That's what guitar players are for smile  and the notes shouldn't clash
