Topic: Marshall JTM60 2x12

Ok everyone, I need your opinion on this.

I have a chance to purchase a Marshall JTM 60 2x12 for just under $700.  It has new tubes (EL34's) plus the original speakers have jsut been changed to a pair of Celestion Greenbacks.

Is this a good deal?  It appears to be in really good shape and does sound lovely....

Any and all thoughts are highly appreciated...including your's Joe...

I will tell you now, the JTM60 sounds real nice BUT I will also say that they have AWFUL, OUTRAGEOUS over heating problems. I would steer clear my friend!

Re: Marshall JTM60 2x12

Thats a fair price for that amp. If you like the way it sounds I would buy it. As far as the over heating problem you can install a fan. I know for a fact that the transformers inthe jtm-30's were under sized, I currently own one and do like the way it sounds and suprisingly enough I have yet to have to change the transformer (maybe I should get off my acoustic and start playing electric again...............................................................................................................................NAH).

If it sounds good, feels good, then it is good. My .02,
Jack

PS- If your buying from a store make them throw in a 30 day money back or store credit. Tell them why you want one(amp is known to over heat). Take the amp home and play the crap out of it for a month and see how it reacts to long sessions of rightious riffing.

I'd say its a fair price, but don't be afraid to bargain.  You can prob. get more off, especially if its a music store b/c they want to move used gear.

Re: Marshall JTM60 2x12

I just saw this thread...sorry for my late response.  Hopefully you did NOT buy it at that price.

I used to have this amp and like a few others have mentioned, they are prone to overheating but that can be solved easily. Also, with a few changes to the circuit, you can really get some great tone out of this amp.

I've seen these sell on ebay for 400-500 in great shape so $700 is stretching it.  I traded mine for a Les Paul Standard plus a few bucks. I'd like to get another one. I miss it.
