Topic: Rory Gallagher

I would like to buy some Rory Gallagher CD's. Can anyone advise on what to get. I was thinking of starting with the 'Irish Tour'.

Re: Rory Gallagher

The Irish Tour is a great place to start Lester. There is a double cd 'The Essential Rory Gallagher' which came out last year.

Irish Tour - thumbs up! smile

What´s also great is the DVD Box from Rockpalast ... if you want to buy more Rory-stuff after the "Irish tour" ... and trust me, you will! wink

As always I agree with Eva.

The rockpalast DVD is from different shows so you can see Rory at different times in his life.

I would go for that one, have a look at Taste too  the band he played in before going solo.

Re: Rory Gallagher

Irish Tour is certainly a great live album, but it is equalled by Live In Europe, which was released a couple of years earlier. The main difference is that Live In Europe does not have keyboards/pianos while Irish Tour does. My advice, get them both!

Re: Rory Gallagher

I would definately endorse the "Irish Tour" album as previously mentioned. Studio wise there are so many but I have to say I love "Photo Finish", especially the remastered version. It was alledgedy recorded under some duress, against the clock, but I think some of the songs on there are brilliant: "Mississippi Sheihks", "Overnight Bag", "Cloak and Dagger". Love it to death!

I still throw "Taste Live at the Isle of Wight" on the turntable occasionally just to hear the solo at the end of "Feel so Good". Classic Rory. His material holds up so well.

My top pick is Top Priority, by far the most rockin cool

Re: Rory Gallagher

My roomie, the guitar player, swears Blueprint is Rory's best. I like them all!  Cathy

Re: Rory Gallagher

Irish Tour is a definite must have. But you also gotta get the Rockpalast DVD!! You won't be sorry.

God Bless Rory!

Re: Rory Gallagher

I cut my teeth on Irish Tour as it was my first exposure to Rory. Great place to start. I caught up on the others in a hurry during weekly trips to record store. Against the Grain was when i was caught up and anticipated new releases.  I love them all actually. Jinx is still one of my favs. I still got all the vinyl  too down in the archives.

If I had to recommend one, it would be Irish Tour.
I'm also partial to Against the Grain.

I would also recommend the DVD "Irish Tour 74 a film by Tony Palmer" . I was able to see Rory several times live. One of the best players ever!
