Topic: Peavey Classic 30 or Vox AC30CCH or ???

I ordered a Peavey Classic 30 head on Dec 26th from a local music store... Well, it still hasn't come in so I'm thinking of canceling the order.  I picked up a Fender HotRod 1x12 extension cab with the Celestion speaker.  I think it is rated at 80W.

Anyways, I'm starting to think there could be other amps in my price range.   I went for the Peavey because of the EL34 power amp vs the 6L6 HotRod Deluxe that I have.  Supposedly it has a Vox sound.  Well then I saw this http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod … sku=482622
for $900.  Which is pretty much the top of my price range.  I figured for $300 more, thats not too bad.

What other suggestions do you have?  It has to have a series effects loop because of my setup.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 or Vox AC30CCH or ???

I have a Vox AC30 CC2 I think.  It is a fantastic amp.  I cant speak for the Peavy as I havent played one. But the Vox is great. I wish it had the Alnico Blue speakers as I am sure it would be a more refined sound.  I dunno.  But for the money I've got NO complaints.

That Vox is a NICE amp.  I would lean that way definately.  The Peavey is a good amp too, but doesn't probably have the personality of the Vox.  Just my 2 cents.

I did just notice one thing... "Variable level FX loop" typically means parallel loop... which won't work the way I set up with the GT-10...

Guess I have to do some digging to find out if it really is or not.

I had a Peavey Classic 100 head and really liked it. I got rid of it for a Rivera though.
The tweed on the classic peaveys is pretty sweat, and I believe they sound really good.

I have a Classic 50 and love it.  If it was stolen or damaged I would get another one. FX loop is in series too.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 or Vox AC30CCH or ???

Gotta go Peavey on this one...maybe try a classic 50 2x12 combo.  I regret selling mine as it was VERY reliable and sounded very good.  It was a little bright but if you are into that chimey voxy kind of thing it's great.  I think if you swapped the speakers for something warmer in the Peavey you'd have a much better sounding/more reliable amp than the Vox.  I know a couple of people who have bought Chinese amps trying to save and paid the price of them blowing up.  Food for thought!

Peavey classic 30 is a great amp, very relighable, and sounds similar to the chims of a Vox.  However the Vox is better tone.  I don't think they hold up as well as the Peavey but the tone is better.  Put it around the 7 o'clock position and your going to be def but the tone is awesome!

Is the reliability of Vox amps a problem?
