F......k a volume knob.  If you lighten your picking technique you never have to touch the volume.  And if you get good pedals you never have to worry about losing tone.

Tone is not just  GUITAR+AMP.

Tone  =  Player + Picking technique + fingering + guitar cable + Pedal + Amp or Amps + Room + PA + Rest of the band combined.

I dont understand where this argument comes from. Tone this magical word that somehow people think is so overly simple.  I dont think Joe Bonamassa loses tone when running thru his pedal board. I dont think he would gain tone if he plugged right into a Amp.

Tone is not a mountian top.  More like a mountian Chain.  There are lots of good tones and they come in all shapes and sizes.

Sorry for the rant.  I love talking dirty with you all.

Unneed Rant ! I understand tone vairies with technique etc.. Ive been playing sometime now. My question was regarding Matchless Amp tone.

Re: Overdrive pedal For Single Channel Matchless ?

Sorry I got off topic.  You'll find here we do that from time to time.

Do what I did...  I went out and tried every pedal I could get my hands on.  Then I found boutique pedals on Ebay and bought them.  Then I sold them and bought more. Then I sold those and bought more. In this great search I found 3 companies I really like that sell affordable pedals.

Barber, Fulltone, and Ocean EFX.  Look those up and listen to clips and see if it would work with your matchless. We can suggest things but ultimately they may sound like crap to you.

Go try things out and let us know what you find that sounds amazing.

After much begging and pleading, Corby at Ocean wouldn't budge.  I must return his beloved serial # 0001 Pearl Drive (after I'm done playing with it of course).  I don't blame him...that's his baby.  Corby-I'm taking very gentle good care of it!!

I did what jeremy did, too.  I tried every pedal I could beg steal or borrow off of friends or that I could afford.  There are so many OD pedals and most-in their own way - sound fantastic.

It's all what you hear and what speaks to you.  In my case that varies night to night.  I use the OD from the Fuchs ODS as my main sound but occasionally on a whim I like something different to go to.  That sound changes depending on my mood, venue, what my ears hear in a room, air pressure...whatever.

The Ocean Pearl is hands down the best for me.  Believe it or not, the other rmost consistant pedal is my old beat to Hell Boss OD/Dist.  Sounds great.  The Barber stuff is all excellent as well as Keeley, Fulltone and Xotic.

Just go have fun experimenting.

My band is Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers.  Joe has a Matchless (don't know the model) that he got off of his friend Bruce Springsteen that is the best Matchless I've ever heard.  He's using a Boss Blues Driver and it sounds incredible.  I let him try a modded TS 808 I have and a Zen Drive I had for awhile.  Neither worked for him.  So again-it's in your ears.  Have fun.

Re: Overdrive pedal For Single Channel Matchless ?

On the topic of Bruce Springsteen... Fantastic super bowl show... My personal favorite artist ever... Sorry Joe your second.  He is the Boss.  And Danny I am jealous as hell you've played with the Boss.  You are a damn lucky fool.

Anyone ever wonder why Avril Lavigne has a signature Telecaster from Fender but Bruce Springsteen doesnt. Humm??

Sorry to get off topic again.
