Topic: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

Hi!

Just bought the Marshall 2266 head, great amp! It has the KT66 valves like in the older marshall amps of the '60s and '70s. Really like the low dynamic range, it's similar to plexi's I guess. I don't like the high dynamic range that much, maybe I'll start using it for a solo boost, but it's kind of harsh. I use a Maxon OD808,which is always on, to get my overdrive. Of course I tryed to dial in a joe-like sound and you really can get some good bonamassa tones!

Ow..and does anybody now what the smallest cab is that I can play my amp through? I've always had combo's so..it's mainly for home use so..is the Blackstar HT cab possible? it has two 10 inch celestion speakers in it, 30 watts each i think..

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

I think Marshall specifically designed that amp for low wattage speakers ala greenbacks ect.  What about a matching VM 4x12 for that beautiful new Marshall head?  That's what I'd do just to be safe.  If both of your speakers are 30 watts it should be fine, just be sure to match cab/amp impedences for the best tone.  Good Luck!

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

Joe, could you maybe give me some settings you would use on the vintage modern? If found a clip at guitar center in which you were playing it at the Marhall booth at NAMM..sounded pretty amazing!!

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

I think you might struggle using hi gain channel as a boost for solos....the volume leap between the two channels is immense.

Have you checked out the vintage modern forum?

it's a mine of information...including regular postings from the designer

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

The difference in volume is indeed immense, so i'm just going to use a second tubescreamer or something to boost my leads..

I've checked it out, but a lot of the users are searching slash/welcome to the jungle-era tones, i'm looking for a more refined joe-like tone..

Thanks anyway!

Marshall made a compact 4x12 in the 90's model 8412 - it's a full 4x12 that one person can lift, celestions and they come up 2nd hand all the time.

2x12's and 1'12 are ok - but there's more air with 4 speakers!

Joe Bonamassa new album - it's amazing, and he plays Ernie Ball Musciman Guitars too!

Not trying to burst anyone's bubbles but no one on this forum is going to sound like Joe or get his tones. Guitars, effects and amps are all just useful tools but it comes from the hands. Most people really do understand this and I will admit I like to know all his set-up quirks and methods but the reality is what it is. That's why Joe is Joe. It'd be really cool to have Joe do a seminar with the band and allow 5-6 different players to play through his rig and really see for themselves how different it really would be. I think it would be a real eye opener. Okay, I want to be included.... anyone else?

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

I didn't say I wanted to sound exactly like joe..
I just ment more Joe/EJ/Warren Haynes/Jeff Beck/..-like than more hardrock guitarists..But I see your point..a lot of his tone comes from playing for so many years..

Re: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266

Exactly..... I wasn't implying that you're trying to be a Joe clone. It is great to aspire to have tone like those you mentioned. I try, I try, I try !!
