Topic: stripped down new guitar for me

it's that time of year again, where mums and dads get you gift vouchers for music shops and you just have to spend them.

going into my local shop, i spied that they're selling off all there gibson guitars.

apparently gibson demand half a shops wall space to display there guitars, so a lot of guitar shops are dropping their dealerships.

i've been aching after a sg junior again, ever since i stupidly got rid of mine. biggest mistake of my life. on the wall they had the older model melody maker on the wall. it has a p90 pickup and a better bridge. brand new they were around £550 back in 2003/4, i got it for £150!!!! new!!

i've tweaked it a little, added heavy strings, top wrapped strings, lemon oil on the neck. it plays like butter now, with a medium action to allow for a bit of slide playing if i want to. all in all I'm well chuffed. also picked up a digitech bad monkey, pretty good TS style pedal for the money.

A local shop owner told me that they had to stop carrying Gibson because they require you to buy at least 50k (I don't remember the number but it was really high) worth of gear for the year and buy it at once in the beginning.  Shop owner said they usually sell that much worth of Gibson gear but cant predict at the beginning of the year what they're going to need come 3rd or 4th quarter.

It's a shame, really.

it goes for epiphone guitars too i think. i know a lot of shops are stocking tokai instead or other gibson alternatives
