I heard Hendrix recorded Purple Haze on a tele because he hocked the strat and they couldnt get it back.

Actually Robbie was a Tele man through most of the Band until about the last year.
Albert Collins was the man. There is footage of him in his last few months having a guitar duelling with Buddy Guy and he cut through Buddy!
Greg Koch is a good current contender.
If that be fact then I'll eat me parrot...aaaarrrrrggghhh!!!

Another who should be mentioned in George Harrison. From the "Get Back" ('Let It Be') sessions on, George played a custom made Rosewood Telecaster. It's heard on both 'Let It Be' and 'Abbey Road', and can be seen in the Beatles' final 'rooftop concert' in the 'Let It Be' film. :

Later Harrison gave the Tele to Delaney Bramlett, who kept it for almost 35 years before putting it up for auction, where it sold for over $430,000 in 2003.

Robbie played Telecaster from '58 to '74. Remember he was influenced by Buchanen even though Robbie saw fame first. Don't beleive it google Robbie Robertson and Telecaster. His solo on Dylan's Ton Thumb Blues with a Telecaster influenced several well known people to start playing the Telecaster.

Ill second that! Roy Buchanan was the best with a Tele! The man could make that guitar cry like no other guitar player could! Im watching him on dvd as we speak!
Very tasty parrot but the feathers are just a tad dry. Pass me the rum shipmate!

Jeff Beck.
Jeff Beck is the best guitar player on the planet. If he picks up a tele, he is the best tele player, if he picks up a Les Paul, he is the best les paul player.
Jeff Beck is the best GUITAR player on the planet
I couldn't have said it any better.
