Topic: Dr. Z amplification

Does anyone know about Dr. Z Amplification? I know that Brad Paisley plays it, so it must not be bad. Dr. Z's shop is like 3 or 4 towns away from me, and it'd only take me about 15 minutes to get there. I was just curious if anyone has any experience with them.

Dr Z makes some killer amps IMO

Yes Logo. I have a Dr Z Maz 38 Senior NR head which I use with either a Dr Z 2x12 or 1x12 cab depending on the gig. A good friend of mine is the only guy that brings them into the UK. What do you need to know?

I'm a big fan of the route 66 and the mazeratti gt. I think I'm gonna give dr z a call and see if I can come by and play through a few different amps. I just find it so cool that a great amp builder is only a few minutes away!

Man, those are some great amps!

    I dig the Carmen Ghia a lot. Also, the MAZ and the SRZ. But, every model he offers sounds really nice. They definately have their own thing going on.

I have had the pleasure of playing 2 Z's, a Maz 18JR. reverb and Z-28 and both of them blew me away.  I hear the "Fender meets Vox" cliche to describe them but to me they sound totally original.  The Guitar Center near me has a Maz 18JR. for like 1200 used...I have a Twin Reverb that is collecting dust.  I don't mean to hijack here, but does anyone think that a trade + cash would be a good deal?  I really want one for my practice/low volume/small gig rig!  DAMN...I got the GAS again!!!

GC or any store will rip you off - Remember, they have to make their money on what you give them too so you wont get full value of what its worth... your better off selling it yourself, i.e. ebay/craigslist....  I think you'd have a better shopt that way.  Then go play games with them at GC smile lol...  If its used you can really work on them b/c they want to move used gear and stuff.

I was able to get them to come down on the price of the amp because it was used and they were able to match what I payed for the Twin Reverb so I just payed a little cash to cover the difference.  BTW, my new Dr.Z smokes!!!  I can't believe how loud it is.  I may need to get an attenuator for it to tame it down for practice/small gigs.  I highly recommend a Dr.Z for anyone who likes more vintage tones that aren't exactly a Marshall, Fender, Hiwatt, Vox, etc.  It kind of has a little bit of everything in there...really incredible!

For $169 it's a good deal for a quality attenuator. I'm thinking about one for my Budda combo.

Wow that's a really cool/useful idea from Dr.Z.  If I was running a mono rig I would definately go with that one.  I just ordered a Weber Stereo Mass unit to try and tame both my 40 watt Hiwatt Bulldog combo and Dr.Z Maz 18.  Thanks for the advice though, I was unaware of that particular model.  I will have to post the results of the Stereo Mass Attenuator and my practice rig when I get it complete.
