Topic: Greatest Current Strat Player

Who do you think is the current reigning Strat playing champ.

#1 in my book is Albert Cummings!!

Re: Greatest Current Strat Player

I'd give it to Trout. He pulls out some amazing stuff & doesn't use pedals.

Agreed. Even though Albert Cummings would also deserve a place in my top-list ... smile

Re: Greatest Current Strat Player

Three way race for me.....Albert Cummings, Davy Knowles, Walter Trout.

But let's not forget about a guy whose first name is Eric. wink

Roy

P.S. And of course, Joe gets an honorable mention as he is in the Strat Hall of Fame in my book!!

Joe is the Best!

Re: Greatest Current Strat Player

Eric Johnson has my vote.

Rock On and Keep the Faith

Jack Loves Patty Loves Joe

Re: Greatest Current Strat Player

I've gotta add Jeff Beck and Sonny Landreth here.

Nobody - and I mean NOBODY - makes the strat sound like these guys do!

Re: Greatest Current Strat Player

John Mayer.  I didn't have to think too hard about this because JM is my favorite guitarist on any guitar.  I won't say he's better than the others mentioned, but for me he represents the new torch bearer for the blues genre.  Like him or hate him, he's going to rekindle interest to young people unfamiliar with the blues.  Other great Strat players not mentioned, but are worthy are: Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Sheppard and Ritchie Blackmore to name a few.

Re: Greatest Current Strat Player

Oh oh, let´s not start the good old Mayer-discussion again ........... otherwise I´ll have to open another discussion thread like the one about Clapton (who should definitely be in the top list of Strat players by the way smile) and we can all fill another 6 pages with our likings/dislikings. big_smile

Personally, I don´t like him too much. At least since one of my friends played one of his albums like 5 times in a row on one evening. wink

Spider - The post wasn't meant to be humerous.  It's just my opinion that I'm stating.  I like Albert Cummings too, but even if I didn't, I wouldn't write a response like yours just because I don't agree with it.

Curby,

You're still new here. Trust me, you're not allowed to have an opinion on this board. Well, at least by some people. wink

Re: Greatest Current Strat Player

John Mayer in my opinion is a very good Strat player. I've always thought so, but it's been cemented with his recent live cd. Wow, what a player. KWS is a great one as well. Jeff Beck, Clapton, of course, need no discussion. Sonny Landreth = AMAZING. Walter Trout = the shiznit. But since all of these guys have been discussed, I'm going to throw out a guy that always seems to be overlooked: Doyle Bramhall II. Always been one of my favorite players of any guitar, but he's definitely a Strat guy. Oh, and I can't forget Robert Cray either.
