Re: New Year in Amsterdam

And a very Happy, and above all Healthy, New Year to all y'all out there from the Elders - who are about to start stacking on layers in preparation for venturing out into what, by a cruel twist of fate, will be the coldest night of the year. Temperatures are expected to drop to between -7 and -10 tonight (that's 18-14 F) but hey, we're committed, we're on a mission to make some noise and blow things up, while watching many hundreds of others doing the same.

Two hours to go.....have a good one everybody, stay safe.

Re: New Year in Amsterdam

Cathy has just landed safely in Philly as the Eagles take a 12 point lead over the Giants late in the fourth, so the airport is buzzing. big_smile

We had a wonderful visit together, though it turned out to be very different than we had expected due to almost two weeks of freezing weather, including some VERY cold nights. So we mainly just stayed inside watching lots of winter sports and dvd's, drinking cups of hot cocoa with blankets over our legs, as old people tend to do in the winter. big_smile

My New Year's night pictures are, alas, not worth posting, even though I had the thing set for 'fireworks'. sad  Here's two consolation pics of three generations of lovely Bonabirds plus one old guy.

Expect Cathy to start posting again tomorrow. No, I haven't counted the days till April 29 yet.

But I probably will soon. wink

Re: New Year in Amsterdam

Great to hear that she's landed safely George.  I'm so glad that you two had such a lovely, if chilly, visit together and hope that the next few days...... it's just a FEW days until April, after all...... will just ZIP right on by for the both of you.

Looking forward to seeing you both posting again.

I like the visual of you guys all snuggly with your cocoa and blankets.  Warm and fuzzy picture.

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Hi George,
Those pictures turned out pretty good.
Nice seeing you guys again and hope that Cathy had a nice stay in our freezing little country.

Re: New Year in Amsterdam

Sweet pictures - nice to see you all together!! And good to know that Cathy is back home safe and will start posting again (hopefully also about the upcoming Blues-Cruise adventures...). smile

Hope we can all talk again soon (I mean talk properly, not the weird MSN-mess we had on Saturday lol) when all this uni-horror is over for me. So actually - COULD you start counting the days George?! That would be a little light of hope for me right now big_smile

Re: New Year in Amsterdam

Thanks to all!! My self-imposed break from the computer has left me with 7 pages of unread posts. That will teach me! But, it's nice to be back. I had a wonderful time..only got to visit with Annilies and Marianne, but it was wonderful...Beautiful home Annelies. Really enjoyed the Rory photo albums and the music....It was cold, but it gets even colder here. I was smart and took my longjohns, something George doesn't even own!! And, he rides his bike to work!!
New Year's Eve was a blast..literally...Every street seemed to have it's own party going on. We are too old to deposit ourselves in the middle of Dam Square with the crazy youngsters, but there was no shortage of wildness where we were. The blasting started 24 hrs. early. We heard explosions on a regular basis. Again, it's fun when you have no "bad" explosion memories...The down side was the trash after!! My goodness but fireworks are messy! The upside, nobody got hurt. No fingers blown off, no stray fires..almost unbelievable...
We did hope to find some local music, but the cold air, and 10 pm start time, kept the elders home. Not a bad thing...I took the HBO series "John Adams" to George and we watched it over the course of my visit. We also got to see the National marathon skate take place outside, something that hasn't happened in a very long time.
Another bothersome observation...the creeping into Amsterdam by American fast food..that has lead to litter of Mickey D's and B'King bags on the streets..a sad sight for me..
So, back at home and knee deep in laundry..but the pets are glad life is back to "normal"..lol...Until Spring when I'll be back! Love to all my Bonabuds across the pond.
Cathy
