Topic: Chicago's Terry Kath/Petition!

A founding member of Chicago and original guitarist:  Terry Kath, is not currently listed among the distinguished graduates of his alma mater: Taft High School.  The school's alumni board is split between those who want him indcuted and those who are fighting to keep him out.  Those against it cite two reasons:  1) he's no longer living and b) his lifestyle and the way he died are not positive role models.  Both reasons are ridiculous!

Read more about it and help encourage the school to change its criteria.  This is one of many honors Terry deserves.  While at the site, read some of the amazing comments!

Re: Chicago's Terry Kath/Petition!

Nothing against Terry Kath, but this petition seems to be something that Taft Alumni should deal with, not the general public. Just my humble opinion.

Edit: I noticed this was your first post and initially thought you came here for the sole purpose of stumping for Terry Kath. Then I noticed that you joined the forum in November, so I am going to assume you've been reading, but not posting.

If you're a Joe fan, we'd love to hear about how you discovered Joe. The introduction section of this forum is a great way to introduce yourself.
Once that's done, maybe you can tell us a bit more about your involvement and interest in this petition.

Re: Chicago's Terry Kath/Petition!

Jimi Hendrix thought Terry was the best guitarist he'd ever heard, but getting so high on coke that you shoot yourself with a gun you thought wasn't loaded is as ridiculous as it gets, what a waste.

Re: Chicago's Terry Kath/Petition!

the gun's cartidge was empty...which led Kath to believe the gun was empty but one bullet was in the chamber

"don't ever play with guns"....as Johnny Cash's momma told him.

Re: Chicago's Terry Kath/Petition!

I agree that it should be a matter for Taft alone. He did something stupid, but that shouldnt negate the fact that he was a great artist. He didnt hurt anyone from himself, and maybe if young people know the story it might help keep someone from doing the same satupid thing. The CTA album is a guitar masterpiece in my opinion.Once Kath was gone, the rock went out of the band and it became to bland for my taste.

Re: Chicago's Terry Kath/Petition!

I mentioned Jimi's respect for Terry's playing which is obviously why CTA was Jimi's opening act the only time I saw Hendrix in the spring of 1970. CTA rocked the house and unfortunately never saw them again before Terry's sad passing and lost interest in their sound without him.
