Topic: Daft Idea?

Dunno if this is a daft idea.... but (lol always a but) how do u guys feel about trying some online sorta jamming?

ATM im struggling like hell to find a band / peeps who want to play or compromise on what they play and stuff id like to, infact bassists and drummers are next to non existant around here sad

So I had a thought well I thought it was a bright idea its probably daft hence the title.. so here goes..

I figured theres alot of musicians here who are prob wouldnt have a chance at doing this usually, anyhow we vote on a song say for instance Your Funeral My Trial. Then we ask in the forum if anybody is willing to play drums, bass, guitar, sing for this. Ok so providing we find people willing to contribute in there spare time, they record there part starting with bass then drums, guitar and singing etc etc The idea is to do it your style and see if the other peeps can help contribute towards it.

I think its a good idea in theory and prob impossible in reality, But ill give you an example I love recording I mess with guitar / bass and vocals whilst doing stuff but always struggle for drums... its always missing in my tracks unless i can coerce someone into doing it (and lets face it these days if u cant pay u dont get) recently I did Your Funeral My Trial but I couldnt get a drummer to do anything so I changed the bass part for an acoustic rhythm part it was ok but I was just messing around in what little spare time I had.

Im pretty sure theres a drummer out there who practises and would like to hear them drums recorded and going with a guitar or bass

and the same for a bassist / harp / mandolin what ever you play ...

I dunno just an idea maybe someone has a similar thought thats better layed out?

Not just straight covers but uno trying to put your own style across I think it could be a good exercise :x its also a good chance for peeps who dont get alot of time to do what they love  to have a laugh smile and possibly the younger peeps among us who wouldnt get a chance at this? could be a good forum interaction...

Anyhow thats my idea feel free to call me a dreamer big_smile

Re: Daft Idea?

It's a great idea. The main issue is everyone having compatible equipment, right? I'm confident everyone doesn't want to pick-up a small TASCAM cassette tape unit and then mail tapes back and forth. I am admittedly ignorant about digital recorders, but I suspect someone here is in-the-know. Not sure how it would work, emailing mp3's back and forth, and everyone adding their piece? I'm sure it's do-able...and it would be a lot of fun!

Re: Daft Idea?

I'M IN.  Email me.  Pete?

I got bass and drums...maybe some background keys.  I'll even sing if you "tighten up me knickers." so I can hit that high part.  lol

Re: Daft Idea?

Ok cool so now I know it isnt really daft, Stu Im guessing some form of digital recording if you have a sound card you can usually record "ok" recordings with the right software.
I use Cakewalk which saves the raw audio files as .wav I guess aslong as its a clean .wav it should be compatible with any recording software / gear to compile, the only real problem I can see is the timing issues... providing drums are down and bass I guess they could be merged into 1 file then guitar added using that persons recording software and merged etc etc

I guess we need to find peeps who are willing to try this and give a song a go smile

BJJ thats great big_smile so I'm happy to sing / guitar, ur happy to drum / bass / sing all thats left is maybe harp and some lead? coolios smile
