Topic: We learn from our parents

I've been on this computer for hours, looking up old you tube footage...I'm stuck in a time warp some days...I found the very first song my mother used to sing constantly after we came to the US for good in April of 1965....I'm finally happy to know all the lyrics after googling them, mom just loved the song...do you have any parental memories of their favorite music...below is "The Fortunes" , I guess this came out in the summer of 65.....I know this might be a corny thread, but mom was the best, a real sweetie

Hi Shred,

THE FORTUNES!!

My mother liked them too, their song -Silence is golden- was a number one hit in Holland.
I was about 15 years old I think.
The song -This golden ring- too.

I hope I remember the name of the songs well.

Nothing wrong with the ukulele, unless Tiny Tim's attached to it LOL.

The Fortunes look like a cross between The Beatles and The Dave Clark Five. Man I love that '60's British invasion era of music.

My Mother is the one that gave me my love for the Blues but also different genres as well.  She loved Billy Holiday and Bonnie Raitt's Father (His name escapes me at the moment) who were Blues trailblazers, but her real idols were Judy Garland and Mr. Cool himself, Frank Sinatra.
I was also introduced to all the great Jazzmen of her era and all the singing Icons of the fifties and sixties by way of the radio and stereo in our living room.
I've always felt music is the time machine that connects us to the highlights of our lives and I'm glad I was born when I was.  Don't think I could get nostalgic hearing Gangsta Rap forty years from now.

My a-mom would sing "Tom Dooley"
