Re: Check this guy out!

as far as uke players go...this guy, i'm sorry to say, is just mediocre. Fairly cheap sounding instrument also. Guys like Troy Fernandez, Derek Sebastian, Jake Shimabukuro (who this guy is clearly trying to copy), or Dennis Kamakahi from right here in Hawaii would just eat this guy up. A for effort though.

I hope some better representations of the uke get exposed more. it's a powerful instrument in the right hands. I'm glad this came up. I'll post some more examples.

Here's one of the masters. I'm glad to call this man a friend. Jake Shimabukuro with guitarist Tommy Emmanuel playing a Beatles tune.

Maui jam band Kanekoa covering Grateful Dead's "Bertha". One of very few bands that feature only the ukulele as a lead instrument in a rock type setting!

This man is Troy Fernandez and at one point in the mid to late 90's had one of the most popular and successful contemporary Hawaiian music duos called the Ka'au Crater Boys. Now for fun he likes to sit in downtown Honolulu and play for the people on the street. This is just a small example of what this man can do with a ukulele!

these are just a few examples of what can really be done with a uke.

Yep, they don't take themselves too seriously. Youtube them doing Smells Like Teen Spirit. You'll love it.

Re: Check this guy out!

As I just mentioned in another thread, nothing wrong with the ukelele as long as Tiny Tim's not attached to it.
