LOL.  I wonder what HER vocabulary consists of???  You know...... there's a certain giant hen sculpture in Northern Ohio which bears my name too....... hmmmm..... and THAT one WAS named for me, by Melissa's daughter, Amelia.  I'm beginning to detect a pattern....... but, I digress.

WE have.......

One dog, one cat.  Kitter and Domino, respectively.  Both about 14.  I'm in denial about that...... not wanting to spend a LONG time thinking about just how old they are.

Kitter is a chow mix.  Beautiful deep golden red fur with a perfect black button nose and WAY too much eyeliner - lol - so I keep telling him.  He charms everyone with those eyes.  He's super friendly and super agile.  He used to walk across the back of the sofa like a gymnast in the middle of a routine - complete with flawless 180 degree turns.  He is the last remaining dog of the three puppies we got one year......the other two were littermates to one another that I brought home from the shelter because I couldn't make up my mind between the two.  Kitter came to us, literally, about 6 weeks later.  He was a pup on the loose who came up to Steve on a job site one day and sat right down.  No one claimed him..... thank God.  He is our delight.

Domino is all black..... with the exception of a white spot on his chest, and one spot inside each foot, which only become visible when he flexes them........ so...... black..... with all the white spots.....thus the name, Domino.  smile  Domino was one of a large family of semi-feral cats that moved in next door...... three generations we thought.  One day, they all disappeared..... never to been seen again ....... except for Domino, who came sauntering back casually a week later.  My greatest challenge with him has been making him into an indoor cat (yes, with the dog too) over the past year or two.  He was injured badly during two scuffles outside (another cat)..... he won't be going out there anymore.  Finally, we're all getting along pretty well now.  Miraculous really, considering they started as prey and predator.  Now they almost cuddle.

That's it.  Just the two of them.  Our kids.  The only ones we have.

My condolences Geko - I know that you're still missing your beloved Spike.  I can't get over the cruel irony of our pet's short lives.  Nothing else matches the particular joy my pets have given me, and, likewise I'm afraid, nothing else matches the particular sharp agony of their loss.

Libby   smile  sad

P. S.  Meant to say that while I enjoy all animals...... I'm really a dog person.....and, like Spider, I like them big and furry.  Give me a dog I can sink my hands into.  smile

Re: Pets - What do you have?

We have two English Springer Spaniels, Abby and Norah.
Abby is 7 years old and Norah is 4.

My daughters are still home, although we're marrying them both off late this year. They each have a dog:
Jamie has a Jack Russell Terrier (Penny) that's 2 1/2 years old.
Carly has a Fox Terrier (Claire) that's about 1 1/2 years old.

That's right, we have 4 dogs until December of 2009, when we'll go back to having two.
I have a feeling we'll be "dog sitting" after they move out.

Re: Pets - What do you have?

Well strictly speaking not my pets but they are the family pets...

Jess 4 year old Springer Spaniel
Max 13 year old Cocker Spaniel (best working dog ever!)

Rosey a cockatiel ironically a male smile and the noisest bird in the world drives me nuts

a bunch of ferrets I think theres 8-9 my mum works as a Vet Nurse so when they get abandoned she takes them in we have a big shed thats built as a play pen / living area for them I swear they have a better living condition than me smile

My dad is obsessed with marine fish / plants so we have quite a few of them too

Max is my fav partly because hes been around since I was young and partly because he works so hard every shooting season :x, Jess still acts like pup shes so loveable she just wants to sit on your knee all day smile. We also had a border terrier but it sadly died a few weeks back he was also 13 years old but he still acted like a puppy! they are great family dogs and so good with children.

Re: Pets - What do you have?

Just one, a wonderful yellow Lab by the name of Goldie. Best dog I've ever known. Smart, fast on both land and in water, beautiful, a good protector and when she looks at you, you know there's nothing but love there. She also moans just like a human when your scratching or giving her a rub down. Makes me laugh every time....what a joy! big_smile

P.S. I ask, how can you not love this face?:

Re: Pets - What do you have?

MsTia has an Irish Wolfhound (Keisha) who doesn't like me.  She be's skeered o me.  Don't know why!  I put my American Rotti (Gabby) down (kidneys quit) a while back...haven't found anyone since.

The kids have 2 cats (Salem & Sabrina) who are brother & sister.  Salem, a fat black male loved his 100 lb Gabby.  If he got tired of you playing too rough, he would skitter across the room and duck behind Gabby and dare you to come and mess with him now. She would raise her head, look over her shoulder at that stupid cat and then look one eyed at you and growl.

I used to laugh my head off.  I miss that dog.  She was all mine.

Re: Pets - What do you have?

Just one dog... a Bernese Mountain Dog, male, almost 3 years old, about 100 lbs, named Iko.  Yes, he's named after the traditional slave song the Grateful Dead did, Iko Iko... some of the lyrics are just nonsense words with no real interpretation, but I've heard "iko iko" called a "meaningless expression of joy"... and the name fits him well!  He's our baby, so smart and so funny... he keeps me laughing! lol

Re: Pets - What do you have?

Ken and I have three pets/children.  We have two dogs and a parrot.

We are also dog people and our favorite dog has always been the dachshund.  They are cute, stubborn, and adorable.  A bit of a challenge, but well worth it.  Our little dog, Mitzi, who was a smooth red mini passed away a little while back and it broke our hearts.  She was 13 years old.  It wasn't long before we adopted Drake and Nina.

Drake is a long hair black and tan standard who loves everybody.  He prances around like he's the King of the Jungle.  He's 2 1/2 years old and finally getting past that puppy madness.  Drake really loves to cuddle with his Mommy.  (That would be me.)

Nina is a mini red and cream who is a bit shy around people.  She's one of those dogs that actually smiles.  Cute...  Cute... Cute...  She really loves her daddy.  (Ken)  We got her after we had Drake for a few months.  They are best buddies.  Nina is 3 1/2 years old.

Then there's Oliver.  He's our sweet little bird that on occasion will bite the heck out you for not getting his way.  He is called a Blue Headed Pionus.  He has a green body with a blue head and splashes of red in his beak, around his neck and under his tail. He's gorgeous and we love him very much.  Oliver will be 9 years old on Valentine's Day.

That's our kids.

Re: Pets - What do you have?

We sprang a convict cat from the local RSPCA rescue centre* about five years ago.

This one was a real 'lifer' and no one would go near it.

It's a viscous mother and out on a 'life license' following a biting incident with a newborn baby.

It spent the first few years refusing to eat anything but Chinese Takeaway and  sinking it's teeth into our ankles.

After a 'few little chats' and a reminder that one of our previous cats was run over by myself , it's now going straight.

* Now gone, financial trouble, they had to call in the retrievers. (Joke, ok ?)

Re: Pets - What do you have?

I cant be that impressive pet wise, i love animals, but i cant find the time to look after a big animal sad

My brother has two goldfish (no very entertaining, but nonetheless, good to have)

And i have a Black Rabbit named THUMPER, he's almost 11 years old. We've had him since he was just a little ball of fluff. LOL
