Re: Exclusive Interview With "Mr. Grand Funk", Mark Farner

Great story and a good interview!  It looks like Mark Farner still possesses strong opinions that carry into his music.  Back in the day, the crowd I hung with wouldn't admit they liked GFR, or CCR for that matter because they were Top-Forty bands.  It was only cool to listen to FM bands.  I can't speak for my friends, but I always loved both bands and surprisingly their music still sounds good.  I guess what I loved the most was the energy they had.  I'm glad the light still shines bright for Mark.  Those comments about the Twin Towers was a little scary though.

Yes it was a vey good interview after Keith carefully pulled him off his soapbox and ended his rant by bringing up the music. Thanks Keith for posting the link.

GFR was pure energy live. Their first 2 or three albums were more underground. Mark live was definatley more schtick than lick but it didn't mater he owned the stage. They were the second concert I saw in 1970 went on to see them  a couple of more times. Lost interest in them during the We are an American Band era. They were a show worth the price of admission though.

Thx for the link...: )
Mark was one of my first "heros"...I finally got to meet him at the Macy's parade in Pittsburgh,Pa last month.
The energy that the early Grand Funk created still sends shivers up my spine with that thunderous bass, crashing cymbals & drums and feedback driven guitar licks....I wish they would release a DVD with that early footage
with today's technology & the 5.1 Dolby (like the remastered Led Zeppelin concerts)
I was happier than winning the lottery after waiting 30 years to shake his hand & get an autograph!!!!!
Keep rockin Mark!

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........
