Re: Eric Czar on Youtube

It's hard to say which one I like better. I love Eric but I love Carmine as well so I don't know. It's good that Joe's sound is evolving and changing. There is nothing worse than when an artist tries to survive doing the same thing over and over again. Fans get bored and you never can tell where they could have gone. I love that we can always expect new things from Joe and go to shows and never be disappointed.

It's kind of like a Hendrix/ Band of Gypsies thing or Clapton/Cream... Great artists thrive in changes of scenery with other artists that challenge them. I'd say Joe is at the top of his game right now and I'm happy.

I do agree... I wish I could have seen the trio when they were touring, but I'm so glad that I've been able to see this lineup twice this year and look forward to the new CD and tour.

Thanks for the input Geko!!!

I guess that's true ( do like his newer stuff though) but that's just my point. He had to change from the Yardbirds to Cream... with Ginger and Jack he thrived. As for Eric, not a whole lot has changed with his format. To do something like Cream again, he would need to  challenge himself and take himself out of his comfort zone.

Re: Eric Czar on Youtube

I just don't agree with the whole Clapton never got any better past Cream. To me, it's b.s. I've found way more things that have moved me with Clapton post-Cream. I do love Cream though, but I just don't agree that he didn't get any better after Cream. He just changed. And there's a HUGE difference.

And that's why I can't pick either side of the argument. It's so hard to judge what is good and what is just DIFFERENT. I agree with both sides. On one hand, Clapton really didn't do anything bigger in the way of popularity after Cream (I'm not saying he hasn't been hugely popular since Cream), but his new stuff is so heartfelt and soulful. One of my favorite Clapton songs is Motherless Child and that is SO far away from anything Cream did.

I'm not a huge fan of Pilgrim though. Couple of good songs, but, as a whole, it doesn't do it for me.

Re: Eric Czar on Youtube

Actually I think you have the analogy backwards.  Joe did not go from the Yardbirds to Cream with this new band.
You can see that just with the video you posted.  His old band was more like Ginger and Jack than the Yardbirds.

"Holy Toledo"  -  Bill King   "Just Win Baby" - Al Davis  "The Autumn Wind" - Steve Sabol

Re: Eric Czar on Youtube

I watched the Eric videos.. I think he sounds fantastic and is doing really what he always wanted to do..  Again Eric was brilliant as a blues rock player but it would be like putting me in a indie rock band.. playing music that was really my first choice..  That sums up Eric in my band.. It wasnt his type of music but he is so good that it doesnt matter..  With that said.. I was very impressed and know he will do very well with it..
Joe Bonamassa

I'm sorry if I made the wrong impression. I'm not comparing the two situations... I'm just saying that most artists thrive in changes of scenery smile

Joe... Good to hear your opinion on Eric!!!!!!!!

there is a huge difference.  i don't see where i wrote his post cream material was bad.  and overall i think it is for the best he did all the phenomenal post cream work he did rather than have 20 other cream albums.  however, and again this does not mean the post cream stuff has been bad, it hasn't(some has, most hasn't), cream was the best thing clapton was ever a part of in my opinion.  keep in mind i think cream is one of the best bands ever, the best blues rock band ever, best power trio ever, etc.  it is not really a fair standard.

and joe, thanks for saying that about eric, all makes a lot of sense now.
