Topic: Never Make Your Move Too Soon...

I know this song may go quite aways back in Joe's catalog, but I was takin a listen to this tune earlier. The guitar work is obviously great. That's no question. But with that thread about all those amazing bass players being posted, I just have to say, what I personally think really makes that track spectacular is really the bass work.

Was it Eric playing bass on that track? his choice of notes that build his lines and his pocket are simply outstanding. I personally end up listening more to the bass than the guitar on that particular track.

Re: Never Make Your Move Too Soon...

Yes that was Eric who played bass on the entire HTCT CD. Talented guy.

great track.  my guess is that is something to do with why hes gone.  which is legitimate.  and since the closest weve been given to an answer for why hes gone is eric is great, i like the band i have now, i am going to  feel free to speculate.  i think as a solo artist the focal point is meant to be the front man.  which i always felt it was even with eric, but that is neither here nor there.

As open and honest as Joe is there are some things that are better left to speculation. To assume Suhl that it had anything to do with the fact that Eric was too good a bass player and competed with him for a frontman is rather insulting to Joe. Maybe the story will come out in his Biography. Which I would prefer an autobioraphy written a little further down the road.

Re: Never Make Your Move Too Soon...

Eric is a killin', amazingly talented as a bassist and composer.  I don't think his talent would have been grounds for firing.  Musicians like to be with the best musicians that will make them sound best, and often bands change lineups for that very reason.  Why did Hendrix try out the Band of Gypsys?  How many times did Miles Davis change his band?  Joe was probably looking for a new sound and looking to take the music in a new direction.  I do miss Eric's playing though, I hope that guy does well.
