Topic: Two Rock

Hey all - I just grabbed up a used V.1 Two Rock CRS.  It sounds awesome.  Does anybody know if they are in phase or out of the phase (meaning reversingthe leads on the speakers)?  I've tried both and they sound close, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks,
Ben

Re: Two Rock

I know my Fuchs was out of phase but I'm not sure about a Two Rock.
If no one here on the forum can help, what I do to figure it out is simple and works.
Lay the speaker on it's back and put a small balled up peice of paper about an inch across on it right on the cone. Hit an open low E string at moderate volume but don't let it sustain too long and watch the paper. The volume has to be around the 5 mark on your dial so you push the speaker to move. If the little paper ball  jumps then the speaker is moving forward and it's in phase. If it just sort of rattles around, the speaker is moving in reverse and it's out of phase. You'll see a difference in the way it moves. You can also check by putting your finger on the front of the speaker cone lightly and doing the same thing. If you feel it pop towards your finger it's in phase, away from your finger, out of phase. Again, you should feel a definite difference.
You can switch the wires around to double check, keeping in mind that neither way will hurt the speaker or amp. Some players like their speakers out of phase because it produces more of a spongy kind of feel without affecting overall tone.
If you play a srat and use your fingers a lot then having the speakers out of phase gives you a little warmer tone that's really nice.

Re: Two Rock

Yes I have a Fuchs as well and I have that cab reversed and I have 2 other amps that are "normal" so I've been trying both and to tell you the truth they both don't sound bad lol.  I'm just looking for an answer for curiosity and to know exactly.  Thanks for the quick reply too and that paper theory is a great idea, I never would of thought of that (does it matter if its a 2x12 or would you put a ball of paper in both and hit the string?).

Re: Two Rock

As long as the cab is properly wired(I'm assuming in parallel) either speaker should tell you.

Re: Two Rock

It's already been said but my Fuchs is out of phase so I had a speaker cable made to accomodate it.  i heard a difference right away.  Like sidewinder said, In phase will give you a tighter more focused sound, out of phase is spongier.

I  thought Two Rocks were out of phase as well.  Is there a Two Rock Forum anywhere?  Try the Gear Page.

Great aquisition.  Congrats!!!

Re: Two Rock

Hi guys - after playing it, it is definitly out of phase.  I am super suprised by it.  I went out on a limb as I've never played one, but I know they are quality so I surely got what I paid for smile .  Two Rock has a forum and I even googled it, but no one had any info on it... strange.   Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Two Rock

The guys at Two Rock build fantastic amps. Enjoy it.

Re: Two Rock

Should be out of phase. Those are really great amps. I had a version 1 which I sold as it didn't get the use it deserved.
