Topic: Baseball Hall of Fame and Ron Santo

I'll readilty admit that I'm biased, because I watched Ron Santo play his entire career with the Cubs.
I've looked at the numbers and other third basemen in the HOF and find it hard to believe he hasn't made it as yet.
Ron Santo was an All Star 9 years in a row and for that period, was the best third baseman in the National League.
Is it my Chicago bias or is Santo worthy of the HOF?
Well, here's part of what ESPN correspondent Joe Sheehan said before the veteran commitee's vote:

"The omission of Ron Santo is the most egregious mistake ever made by the Baseball Writers Association of America. They should have inducted Santo 20 years ago, and that they overlooked him throughout his 15 years on the ballot is a shame. I sincerely hope that the new Veterans Committee rights the error quickly. It will be a boon to their credibility and a honor for a man too long left outside the hallowed halls of Cooperstown."

I'm curious how fans outside Chicago view Ron Santo.

Re: Baseball Hall of Fame and Ron Santo

I got to back you on this...Santo could rake and field...he was probably the premier 3rd baseman in the national leagues during the time spand he played his career....there are some clowns in the HOF these days, a few with padded DH stats to pad their careers (even if I love the DH)....hate to say it but he should have gone to the AL and padded his numbers like others did...if he could have got to even 400 homers, he'd be in..just my 2 cents

Re: Baseball Hall of Fame and Ron Santo

Here let me back up my claim, Mathews put up most of his big numbers in the first half of his carrier...It's no coincidence that Santo was winning them gold gloves when Mathews was still playing, when it comes to third basemen they always tied in slugging stats into their voting whether they one to admit it or not...umm, you might want to tell me to shut up, I could send this thread into the hundreds and get WAY off topic, it's the only thing in life I really know roll
