Contrary to popular belief, rock is NOT dead. As long as AC/DC is up to the challenge rock will remain steady. I haven't seen a rock show at that level since the Stones really were the "greatest rock'n'roll band in the world", when was that the late 70's early 80's? If they are coming to a town near you, it's well worth the investment and effort.

Who says that Rock is dead? The first time I heard this rumour in the fifties when they declared Rock´n´Roll dead and CALYPSO as the big thing. Well, Harry Belafonte seems to be a good man but.......
John, nice to recommend AC/DC, but all tickets for Germany were sold out in some seconds.(You can see by that again how dead rock is.)

I agree Rock is alive and well. But, what about Roll? Just like the Rhythm in R&B, I feel it's an element that has been neglected, even swept under the rug. Yes, I know all the arguments about "labels" and how limiting they are, but I feel it's important. I'm not certain younger generations will understand the history of modern music without grasping the concepts. Basically, I like my Rock to Roll and my Blues to have Rythmn. I know I've not been real clear here..hard to explain..just the rantings of an old lady I guess... Cathy

Great to see the boys are on top of their game.But where is the next generation of Rock?It fallen off the radar?You got Hip Hop,Teen idols,American Idols,Punk but when was the last time a real rock band drew a huge crowd live or sold a gazillion cds or songs?I think thats what is meant by rock is dead.

On thing I'd say about AC/DC is, its amazing what difference eight years makes. back in 2000/2001, AC/DC played in Glasgow's SECC to a half full arena. Their concert in Balfast was cancelled that year due to poor ticket sales, come 2008/2009 most of their tours are sold out in minutes. It is clearly not because AC/DC have changed their music that this change has happened, rather it must be a reflection on how the current music scene has led people back to the music they used to take for granted.
What was very obvious at the Oakland show was about 15% or more of those in attendance were under the age of 18, a lot of teens with a parent or two in tow. My son is almost 20 now, but when he was in high school as is still true AC/DC were the most popular '70's band with the kids at his school, apparent by all the t-shirts and hats they wore. The great bands transcend generations.

Now i have to agree somewhat because its AC/DC and they do ROCK IMO but I don't think it is necessarily the reason most of those young people got interested in them. Not doubting it completely but the marketing and corporate control of the market definitely has a heck of alot to do with it. In alot of the 'big box' stores including the one they had the exclusive cd sales thing with recently have been selling 'vintage style' t-shirts of theirs which became popular with these kids before most of them even heard the music. even though it has a fairly large impact on me and stuff i love, i guess in the grand scheme of things this sort of control is much less harmless than other sorts of corporate controls-controla

my donnington VHS tape was one of the two concert videos i had and memories that can't be relived with one bud having his head 'glued' to the speaker much to his head's demise while cockeysburger and i chipped the freezer ice for our drinks and him teaching me the Angus dance, can't go back

ac/dc could call it quits right now and rock would be alive and thriving. the people that say rock is dead are the same people who are responsible for rock album sales being dead. rock is not dead. there are so many great bands out there when i hear someone say this i just don't listen to their opinion on music any more. look at joe. he brings the rock.
rock is not dead, it has just fallen out of the mainstream. people who say rock is dead are the same people who make kanye west a number one artist, the same people who say nickelback is going to bring rock back from the dead, the same people who consider coldplay a big time rock band
honestly ac/dc being around doesn't make a difference for rock being dead. clearly when people say, wrong as they are, they are not talking about bands comprised of members in their sixties who will get booed if they don't play at least 10 songs of their greatest hits album in concerts. hell the rolling stones have been alive all these years. look at keith richards. as long as hes alive rock will never die
I hear where you're coming from Suhl, but can you name some of these bands? Personally I don't think the Stones display the energy that AC/DC generated the other night like they used to. I'm talkin' about when the band hits the stage and all 20,000 in attendance were standing, fist pumping, singin' along and shakin' their tails from start to finish. I usually catch a Skynyrd show every year and they come close to the same level of grabbing the crowds attention and keepin' it rollin' from start to finish. Saw Springsteen a year ago and it was like a roller coaster, up for the oldies and down(beer/bathroom break) for the rest, a fickle crowd to say the least. Also you mentioned how Joe brings the rock, that's great, it's what attracted me to him in the first place, but might just be why we never see him in that grammy blues category.

You are right. He has got a definite rockstar personality and I like him. But it´s not because the Stones still are a good rock band. I don´t think they are - look at the Scorcese movie: a handful of good songs - the best done by Buddy Guy- , the rest you can forget. The most exciting scenes in the film were from long time ago when the Stones were really rocking.

yeah that part was a joke. really when i say rock is not dead i don't mean old bands are still going, i mean there are young bands that are still straight up rock n roll and good. evidence below.
