Re: Favorite acoustic players???
my thoughts exactly....all the cover-tune / yuppie schlock aside...James is a great picker.
Dont laugh but I think that James Taylor should be in this group too. Ok serious don't laugh. You try to finger pick the stuff he's doing with his right hand.

Re: Favorite acoustic players???
I see lots of votes for Paco De Lucia and I sort of forgot him - although I have some of his recordings.
A virtuoso of modern flamenco - yes indeed, but...
Too many notes for me, exhausting to listen to.
Because you can - doesn't mean you should and that is a lesson that many a guitarist and bassist should learn.
(That'll stir 'em up Jeff, fellow thumper.)
STIR IT UP!!!
Bob Culbertson plays a Chapman Stick. He's a tapper.
Nov 7th 1993, Joe Pass was in Miami with Pepe Romero, Leo Kottke & Paco Pena. I went with a friend of mine, a classical guitarist. We were invited backstage afterwards, where we exchanged pleasantries. When my buddy went to corner LK, JP looked at me "Well?" Sober now, I said. He just grinned. Rest in peace.
The funny thing was that Roger (friend) & I agreed on the way home that the Latinos had blown us away. Pepe played some Segovia stuff that had poor Roger just crying. Paco played some flamenco thing to end with and dared the bass players and drummers in the audience to count it.
I hate guitar players.

Dear Christ that Michael Hedges clip is incredible! Totally mastery of the instrument...
He and Sonny Landreth could do some wild things together.
And of course you've got to love Al Di Meola, I'll be seeing him in February at the Coach House!
Re: Favorite acoustic players???
This one from Keith Urban live is well too
Re: Favorite acoustic players???
Have you guys heard of Monte Montgomery?
He's on Joe's European label and was voted one of top 50 guitarists in Guitarist magazine.
