Re: Skynyrd Announce UK Dates

Hi Michael,

I was lucky enough to see them live a couple of years ago at Wembley Arena when they shared the bill with Deep Purple and I have to say on the day the blew Purple away.

In fact I went out the next day and bought their live DVD

Good things come to those who wait Michael. I hope Billy Powell is back on his feet by then, he had I think hip or knee replacement surgery and didn't tour much this past year. His replacement was capable, but face it there's no replacing Billy, especially on Call Me The Breeze. Wish you'd had a chance to see them while Hughey was still in the band, the best they ever sounded outside of the original line up. Live from Steeltown, and Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve DVD's prove my point.

Re: Skynyrd Announce UK Dates

I'll be thinking seriously of the Cologne show, I'd love to see this lot again.

I only ever saw Skynyrd once, not sure of the year, around '73 I think (I could wikipedia it but can't be bothered now) - anyway, it was their first time in Europe and they opened for Captain Beefheart, who was the act I went to see in the Town Hall, Wolverhampton. big_smile

They totally blew us all away. Nobody had ever seen three lead guitars before. I loved them immediately.

Re: Skynyrd Announce UK Dates

G Dawg, a little reference for ya, Nov. '73 was their first arena gig opening for The Who in SF. Prior to that night they had only played in front of bar crowds, kind of a baptism by fire. As I've mentioned before I was there and got hooked on the first taste. Regardless of the line up the music stands the test of time. I saw them last July and worth every penny I paid.

                                                                                                  Enjoy,

I really wanted to know what the date was that I saw them, and since I always proceed from the assumption that I can find anything on the web, I started searching...it took a while because I couldn't find anything on any LS sites, so eventually switched to Beefheart sites and...bingo!

I saw them on April 26, 1973 during a Beefheart tour when he played 22 shows in a month, though I don't think they opened for him for the whole of his tour. It must have been their first time in Europe. Like I said, the people I went with were knocked out and so was I. Still am, love that sound. cool

P.S. I appreciate the honorary Dawgdom title, Jdawg! big_smile

Interesting, The info I've found has them signing with Al Kooper's Sounds of the South/MCA label in '73 and recording Pronounced Leh-nerd Skyn-nerd in early '73 and hitting the road with The Who on their Quadrophenia Tour in Nov. That's not to say the couldn't have crossed the pond, but another site mentions Artimus replacing Bob Burns at the end of their first UK tour at the end of '74. Who knows what to believe.
After you mentioned your "mongrel pedigree" I felt you were worthy of Dawg status, I now pronounce thee G Dawg...........sound the trumpets and all hail. LOL!!!!! & a wink.

Re: Skynyrd Announce UK Dates

Got our two tickets for Manchester Apollo - Yippee!

edited to say - I used See Ticket - The booking fee and the transaction fee added £16.80 onto the price of two standing tickets - nearly 18% of the ticket price going to the online agent - This practice is outrageous. I will be contacting trading standards and will not be using them again

Re: Skynyrd Announce UK Dates

I always liked Skynyrd  but was more into the Allman Brothers band. Don't know why, maybe because I discovered them first. can't remember, too long ago.

Both true legends!!

A few years back I saw Skynyrd at an openairfestival in Hellendoorn Holland and they were great! A great  evening with that steamy southern rock!!

If they come to Holland I would go again, so don't miss it when they are around.
Cologne isn't suitable for me cause it's on a Mondaynight. Pity!

Re: Skynyrd Announce UK Dates

I must admit i would prefer the Allmans by they never leave the States!!!

Re: Skynyrd Announce UK Dates

If you can go on EBAY and look for a DVD that has the original Skynyrd....there are several to be had...one a show from Rockpalast with Ed King as the third guitarist and another with Skynyrd's set on Old Grey Whistletest

Skynyrd just ain't Skynyrd without Ronnie Van Zant for me.....my favorite band of all time.

"why isn't the number "11" pronounced "onety one"???....S. Wright.

Re: Skynyrd Announce UK Dates

I don't suppose they will be supported by Back Door Slam again? It could happen I suppose.

Libby and I know just the guy to ask if you'd like G-nose. BDS is focused on putting their new CD together for release, hopefully around that time. They're on a serious "roll" here in the states, but they're chompin' at the bit to do a tour at home.
