What size pic dose everyone use? I used to use thin bigish pics but i've changed and use small fat tear drop pics and i've found my playing has improved

Re: Pics

Jim Donlop torxe 1mm.  I try my best to sound like clapton and his sound is produced with thick hard picks.  I tried the nylon picks and they sound great for acoustic but not hard enough for electric guitar.  Also I play them until they are truely wore out!  I'm cheap.

Re: Pics

Jazz 3's never looked back since.. I used to go in the shop and ask for them but some guy used to buy the whole stock everytime they came in so I made him keep a bag behind. They just seem to make me work more for accuracy etc keeps me thinking

Re: Pics

Dava picks, the green ones mainly but I have a few of all of them. They work smoothly, are easy to hold onto and Dave is a great guy to deal with.
I'm one of those guys that has to have my hands in everything so I also make my own ebony and purple heartwood picks but those are best for acoustic guitars.

I love the Jazz 3 XL's and the Ultex standard
I wish they produced an Ultex Jazz 3XL as well as the Ultex Jazz 3
Joe - tell them to make them, they will listen to you more than me.

Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm. Never could get into Jazz IIIs, even though they're what Joe plays. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned that way. I actually started using my tortexes when I was 13 and found out they're what Slash uses. Ah youth

Hi,

I used to play Dunlop Tortex 1mm (the blue) for years.
After getting curious for the Jazz III that i read so much I just tried them.
They felt a bit strange to me in the beginning but now I love them.
When I play with the Tortex now they feel too large for me.
The Jazz III seem to allow a more precise and faster picking.
Maybe just subjective but as long it helps? lol

Fender medium. I use the back end (yes... it's because of Stevie Ray Vaughan).

what does the III mean in the Jazz III?
is it thickness?
thanks

The various Jazz picks (I II and III) have varying tip styles. I is round, II is semi, III is sharp. There are values on the Dunlop website of 1.10, 1.18, and 1.38 for I II and III respectively, but I'm not sure what they represent. All 3 types come in Red Nylon or Black "Stiffo" Nylon.

I did exactly the same (except that I used 1.2mm black Dunlop Tortex before I switched to Jazz III).
And now I feel exactly the same - the Tortex are way too big... tongue

The 1.10, 1.18, and 1.38 are the thicknesses of the picks in mm.

Edit: Oh yeah forgot to say, I use custom picks from In Tune Guitar Picks (the GrippX-XJ's)... they're basically the same exact size as the Jazz III's but they're 1.5mm thick (the thicker the pick the better for me) and they're a bit easier to grip (I think, at least)
