Re: Your ancestry?...not so simple?

Is this info on Mormon church members only? Or are they keeping tabs on the entire population? Are you a Mormon church member yourself Bob? Just wonderin'.

Re: Your ancestry?...not so simple?

The info that the Mormons keep and offer access to is not just of their members. It is part of the Mormon religions doctrines that young members are required to spend I believe 2 years  travelling about to churches around the world to film the records. This  filming of church records is done of all churches that permit them access to film. In Europe they have been permitted to film most all of the Catholic and Protestant church records + many of the civil records in many places . Nothing newer than 100 years is allowed to be made public by them in order to protect the privacy of living persons.
I'm not a member of the Mormon church but have often made use of their facilities to research my family tree. There really is no other convenient way to go about doing it unless you had the time and money to actually travel around the globe to your ancestors church or burial places. There is of course various online services that do have some good info but you are then relying on other peoples research which may be accurate or not. I preffered to do it myself to maintain accuracy, + its really kinda cool to look through an old church record book, hundreds of years old and see the actual marriage certificate for your ancestor right before your eyes complete with details about their ages, occupations, places of birth, who their parents were etc.

A different option to the online services which all cost membership fees to join. Thanks for the update.

Re: Your ancestry?...not so simple?

We moved to this city of Roseville (2 hours from S.F.) 14 years ago....great place to raise a family (very low crime and scum bags)...Deb starts researching the area as her grandmother went to high school here...seems, her ancestors were some of the earliest settlers, going back to the gold rush era....one street is named after her great uncle of some kind, he was the first doctor in town...she got a call from a local business man who was in his 80s at the time, heard she had left info with the town historian...this gentleman was a distant relative and knew her famliy very well....when he passed on, there was a huge article on this peditrician....he was the face of all Roseville history for as long as anyone could remember....the mans house faced a park that was over 120 years old....every house on that one way street had been passed down to the next generation...I refer to it as millionaries row...this man looked like he had lived in Europe his whole life, a heavy French accent and carried himself with a very confident presence....I met him only once, and he treats me like a king, what a gentleman....if i had half the class this man had, I'd be doing rather well...anyhow, just another story...oh yeah, most of my wifes family on her moms side lived well into their 90s...not mine sad

That's funny Shrederoo!  Standing in one of my centers the day before election with a coupla officers and remarked about racial nonsense.  One said to me, what do you know about that?  You're a white guy.  I rolled my sleeve up and stood next to him...he was lighter...and I said oh? and you're a black guy?

He was new.  He went red.  Everybody said no mr. jones, go light on him.  He don't know you.  I just smiled and rolled my sleeve down.  And I'm not that dark...
