Topic: Hi from Ontario, Canada

Hi. Always been a strat player for the last 20 years or so. Refused any efforts to be talked into owning a guitar with humbuckers, even though I've been a fan of Joe's since the Bloodline days.
A couple of weeks ago I saw Joe play here in town and after I picked my jaw up off the floor I started thinking, maybe there is something to these guitars after all. His tone was amazing.
A few days ago, by a very strange set of circumstances I stumbled across a used 8.4 lb. Gibson heritage 57 reissue gold top that is now my baby, but that belongs in another forum.

Anyway, glad to be here and it's good to see that Joe has a devoted fan base.
Besides being a world class talent, from what I understand he's also great guy, and with all the years of hard work he's put in, and still does, he deserves the recognition.

Re: Hi from Ontario, Canada

Joe certainly isn't the first to lay down some sizzling blues licks with a Les Paul - think Jimmy Page, Gary Moore and a host of others.

I can't say that Joe is the best Blues Rock artist on the planet - only the best that I've seen or heard so far... big_smile And I think a few others around here are of the same opinion!  And he just keeps getting better!

Welcome aboard!

Re: Hi from Ontario, Canada

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum!  Also I'd like to welcome you to the world of humbuckers!  Les Pauls are a different all together but I'm sure you'll grow to love them more every day.

Re: Hi from Ontario, Canada

Hey Slidewinder!!

I was on my WAY to welcoming you at 10:00 am this morning, and then was somehow distracted...... I'm laughing now at how the first TWO replies to your post came more than NINE hours after your post, BUT within 35 SECONDS of each other!!!  THAT is the kind of odd stuff (some of us like to call it MAGICAL) that goes on around here all the time.

So..... back to my warm welcome!!!  Do enjoy your time here with us.  There are LOADS of nice people, lots of information to share and MUCH enthusiasm for Joe abounds.

Post away!!  Post often!!  Ask questions if you need help.

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Re: Hi from Ontario, Canada

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. It's really appreciated.
RICjunkie I've been a fan of Gary Moore for quite a few years as well so I know what you mean.
Joe's playing has been evolving over the years and you can hear his influences as he progresses.
I don't think he's reached his peak yet and as his playing matures he just seems to get better.
I'm really looking forward to his next trip to Canada and I hope it's not too far down the road.

I don't know where in Ontario that you reside - it sure is a very large province - but if you're in the Toronto area or Niagara peninsula you can catch Joe in Rochester or Buffalo - he seems to play at least once a year in each city. This year he played at Art Park in Lewiston ( just down river from the falls) and at the Rochester Jazz Festival - both were free shows. Art Park drew about 5,000 fans and Joe put on a truly memerable performance. There are several songs from that gig up on youtube.

On the other hand if you're over near Windsor you can catch Joe in Detroit or at one of his "Joe-hio" gigs.

I was hoping to catch that last show in St. Catherines but my employer had other ideas....

Take care!

Re: Hi from Ontario, Canada

Welcome to Joe World Slidewinder! You'll find many other guitar players here to talk "gear". I don't play, but I LOVE the word Humbucker!! Would have been my username if I was smarter. I must admit to being pleased about the Gibson. You've GOT to love all that "bottom"! As for the strange co-inky-dink, as we call them here, get used to it. They happen a lot around here...Magic, as Libby said. Thanks for the intro. Have fun!     Cathy

Hi Slidewinder, sounds like you are going to fit in here perfectly. Welcome aboard.

Re: Hi from Ontario, Canada

Hi Slidewinder.

Welcome.

What you say about Joe is very true I think.

I have both Strat and Les Paul.
Chalk and cheese.

Both good.
Love them both.......but if I had to save one of them in an emergency it would be the Gibson.
I feel the Fender is a guitar that sounds good, but the Gibson is a work of art as well.

Greetings to Canada.

Re: Hi from Ontario, Canada

Thanks again guys. Cathy, if I had been thinking I pobably would have tried to use Humbucker as my name but the name Slidewinder is from a band I was in a few years back so it seems to pop up in my head first.

Ges, I know what you mean. I have a strat that I built(been building them on the side for quite a few years) wouldn't sell for anything. It seems to have that special unexplaned combination of parts as well and I've been offered good money for it a couple of times.
It's got an original 64 body that I bought off a dealer a few years back when they were still affordable. I mounted it with a warmoth 24 3/4 scale strat neck(Gibson scale) and a brazilian rosewood board. I kept the radius at 9.5 and put big frets on it and it really sings.
I love my 57 historic but they both do their own thing so well I'd be hard pressed to decide.
I just replaced the frets on my gold top with large frets(6100's) as well and it's even more fun to play now. I have a really hard time putting the les paul down.
