Topic: Cross the pond for $13???

A heads up..I heard on the news last night a company called Ryanair is going to offer transatlantic flights for $13...they said it's because they can fill business class, but need more passangers for coach. The news said it would be announced this week. As of this time I don't see any American destinations, but I'll keep checking.     Cathy

Re: Cross the pond for $13???

I think they're Ireland's airline, but we'll see.   Heaven knows, Joe fans travel well...  I'd hop across the pond to see Joe at Royal Albert Hall.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.  Keep us posted.

Re: Cross the pond for $13???

Ryanair is know for its cheap flights here in Europe - but I think you always have to add some more taxes and fees to the cheap offers... but still this would be unbelievably cheap. I haven´t heard anything about them doing the same thing with Transatlantic flights too, but this would be just the right offer to get ready for the RAH. wink

Re: Cross the pond for $13???

I checked their website immediately, but no mention of anything transatlantic there.

They are another Easyjet, no frills and bottom prices if you're able to book far enough ahead of time. I'll certainly be keeping my eye on this!

Re: Cross the pond for $13???

Here's the news article, looks like would be an off shoot of Ryanair, in about 3 years if air travel remains in a slump.

Ryanair reveals cut-price transatlantic plans
Passengers could pay as little as £10 to cross the Atlantic as Ryanair draws up plans to set up a new independent low-cost carrier.

By David Millward, Transport Editor
Last Updated: 5:53PM GMT 03 Nov 2008

Michael O'Leary, Ryanair's chief executive, said the blueprint depended on the continued industry slump making it possible to buy a cut-price fleet of aircraft.

The new carrier would need between 50 to 60 long-haul planes, which would be based at up to 10 European airports, including London.

In America the planes would use secondary airports near to a number of cities including New York, Denver and Los Angeles.

However Ryanair's operation would be completely separate from the new airline, which would take about three years to set up.

"We would not have any links with the company that would run this apart from the fact that we would envisage flights being made across the Atlantic from some of our European bases."

His willingness to consider entering the transatlantic market comes within months of the collapse of four carriers on the route: Eos, Silverjet, MaxJet and Zoom.

Even if the new company would be separate from Ryanair, the pricing model would be similar with some very cheap seats on offer, although prices would rise with demand.

The aircraft would also carry some business class passengers, who would pay £1,000 each way to cross the Atlantic – roughly half the full price of a business class ticket on a mainstream airline, like British Airways.

Underpinning Mr O'Leary's plans is the belief that the aviation industry is entering a recession which could lead to only four carriers surviving: Ryanair, Lufthansa, Air France KLM and British Airways.

In all more than two dozen airlines have failed this year, thanks to a combination of soaring oil prices and an economic downturn.

"We need a recession. We have had 10 years of growth. A recession

gets rid of crappy loss-making airlines and it means we can buy aircraft more cheaply."

The recession would be "dark and deep", Mr O'Leary said, adding that he expected it to last for 18 months.

Ryanair itself reported half year profits of £170 million for the six months ending Sep 30 – a fall of 47 per cent.

The airline expects to make a loss over the next six months and fares could fall by 15 to 20 per cent.

Despite this, Mr O'Leary added, Ryanair's performance had been "remarkable", with passenger numbers increasing by 18 per cent compared with October last year.

Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts

Re: Cross the pond for $13???

I think what we need here is a charter flight originating in California on May 2nd, with stops in St. Louis and Baltimore (maybe one or two others) staight on to Heathrow. Of course it would need to have a good sound system smile and with every seat came a ticket to the RAH.

Can Joe's marketing/booking team make that happen?

Put me on the top of the list.  I am SO there!

Re: Cross the pond for $13???

Seriously tho...  I wonder if Joe's management team could reserve a block of tix for the RAH gig for those of us on this side of the pond if this gets confirmed, and work with a travel agency.  Round trip airfare from somewhere on the east coast, a couple of nights accomodation in London and a ticket to the show.  This being such a monumental point in Joe's career I'm sure that a bunch of forum members would like to share the night with him. A bunch of us being on the same flight would be great!

Tom..be patient..Rumors (ah, rumors) are that a package for flight etc. is being investigated.....It may not happen..so..we just have to wait for confirmation of the date and other info from "The Boss"....It's pure agony, I know!!!     Cathy

Re: Cross the pond for $13???

Hi folks, sorry just skimmed this ariticle now. Michael O'Leary was on a news program yesterday and he said they are hoping to purchase a fleet of transatlantic planes on the cheap during this downturn, but he did not suggest that it would be imminent.  Shame we could have all profited from it, maybe even had a reunion of 100 forum members. smile smile

Just to clarify Ryanair is an Irish independant company. The Irish national airline is Aer Lingus.

Re: Cross the pond for $13???

Whenever those cheap seats hit the market, I suspect there will be a large contingent of American Bonamaniacs at the next Joe show in the UK!  I know I'll be one of them.

Thanks for the Ryanair/Aer Lingus correction.

Re: Cross the pond for $13???

Ryan Air is kind of like the Southwest Airlines of Europe.  No frills. But very economical.

I've never flown on it but I've heard some good reports.

Re: Cross the pond for $13???

I travelled with Ryanair from Germany to Spain for less than 50€. Flight was okay but you have to drive sometimes to airports far in the countryside. For example Frankfurt Hahn is quite a distance away from Frankfurt city - but there are buses to the city.
