Topic: FOR THE FEW JM FANS!

since i've read so many bad things about the John Mayer forum and how they aren't real supportive of this forum's discussed artist, i figured we might as well not stoop to their level by
not supporting or even bashing their artist since there are some Mayer fans on the JB boards. So with that said, I found this video that I thought i'd share with you who are fans of John Mayer or maybe some of you that are on the fence about wether or not you enjoy his stuff or not. Its just kind of a cool video in general that features drummer Steve Jordan and bass/guitar virtuoso Charlie Hunter helping John to create a new song live (which turns out to be "In Repair") in the studio.

Also shows some of JM's massive pedal and effects collection!

thanks for the post, I haven't gotten to watch all of it yet but I definitely will. i have enjoyed what I have learned about John by watching vids of him and have often wished i could sit around and talk a while with him. After reading this post yesterday i had a really cool dream where i got a chance to do that and john also fixed me lunch! too cool...anyway have only seen the first part of the video and look forward to watching it and learning about his learning experiences. I am sure it will motivate me with my desire to learn how to play guitar and also fantasize about being able to write songs maybe one day.

Write a poem Jane then you just need to put music to it big_smile

Re: FOR THE FEW JM FANS!

Thanks for posting the vid vince. Am a pretty recent fan of John's, and have been listening to/watching Where the Light Is continuously for a good while now, and am waiting for Continuum as we speak. Really enjoyed the insight into how a song can come together, just from jamming around with different sounds. Would love a go of some of those pedals for damn sure!!! Suitably inspired....now where did i put that talent....hmmmmm!!!

I think you'll enjoy Continuum. It's a great record. I was throughly convinced after seeing "Where the Light Is" that this dude is the real deal.

I'm a JM fan. I have kept the Austin City Limits show on TiVo because it's so nice. I am especially fond of his funky side. He's got great rhythm and expression.   Cathy

Thanks for the link Vince. Hadn't seen this before.

I've thought for sometime that JM's talent is overlooked by the 'serious music' crowd, probably because most people think of him as a pop (popular?) artist with little soul or conviction. He's inspired me to pick up the old Custom Shop Strat instead of the humbucker loaded Nik Huber, back off the gain on the amp and enjoy playing from a different perspective. The audience seemed to like it too at recent gigs. big_smile

I believe he's doing for the blues what Stevie Ray did for it in the 80's (not many people understand that's really where JM started...in the blues). He's making that form of music "cool" again to a huge mass of young people. I remember seeing his "Any Given Thursday" concert a few years back, and realizing that when he started playing SRV's "Lenny" and you could hear a whole plethora of teenaged girls screaming and goin nuts! they may not have had any idea what they were enjoying, but they were enjoying it nonetheless. He's also proving that someone with REAL talent can be successful in the commercial music world. That's something to be admired in itself.

Props to anyone who can name all those pedals...
