Machine Gun

Re: If You Got To See Jimi Hendrix

hmmmmmmm I've been on a Hendrix fix this week. Got given the book Room Full Of Mirrors for my birthday and it started off a bit of a rediscovery for me. Its so hard to pick just one song, I'd probably have to say Little Wing I guess, followed closely by Machine Gun or Spanish Castle Magic.

If you haven't heard it already check out the Live At berkeley CD, got some of Jimi's best playing and coolest tone imo, aside from Band Of Gypsies of course!

I've also just been listening to this 30 minute interview with Hendrix : really cool!

Re: If You Got To See Jimi Hendrix

Definitely Voodoo Child (Slight Return). One of the best guitar songs ever!

Dreams only last the night.

Re: If You Got To See Jimi Hendrix

I would prefer to see him with the Band of Gypsys playing the tune "Who Knows".

Re: If You Got To See Jimi Hendrix

Hey that's a Great Question and a tough call , but a few spring to mind .... Agree with Lee

Machine Gun
Hear My Train a Comin'

Both are waiting to be revitalised

Either of these Jimi Masterpieces would be nice to see given The Full JB Treatment .... ( one day )

Re: If You Got To See Jimi Hendrix

No question... "Red House". But if it was, say, one on one, he and I, I'd ask him to play me his favorite. And sit back and relish the experience.

Re: If You Got To See Jimi Hendrix

Im always on a hendrix day tbh the cd is almost constantly on in my car (have quite a collection of bootlegged live shows) I think from the cds ive got of loved to of seen winterland in 1968 the version of Hey Joe just seems to make me want to play everytime i hear it..

Littlewing always tickles my fancy too, album wise One Rainy Wish from axis Bold as Love is pretty good.. If I could have Joe play a song it would probably be One Rainy Wish or Littlewing..

I think Joe hits the nail on the head there as well, I have somewhere Noel Redding (Jimi's bassist) playing thru his set up doing red house think it was in Paris they switched roles for a song Jimi on bass and Noel on guitar he sounded very much like Gary Moore (to me anyhow) it just shows how much tone is in the hands atleast to me anyhow smile

Simple answer, the longest one! smile

Would be amazing for him to reappear and play in my living room sometime. My wife might even switch off the X-Factor for a while :

Re: If You Got To See Jimi Hendrix

I saw Jimi live in 1970, so this question is rather moot. Voodoo Child was spectacular with Jack Cassidy sittin' in on bass guitar.

Truly an unforgetable experience Simon, sadly just 6 months later he was gone for ever, physically that is.

Re: If You Got To See Jimi Hendrix

It would have to be the Experience for me.

The closest I ever came to seeing Jimi was when he played at the Isle of Wight with (amongst others on the bill), Bob Dylan - I desperately wanted to go but instead had to go with my first wife to visit her mother. A weekend at the mother-in-law's instead of the legendary IoW concert.

I could have cried.  sad

I only lived about a mile away as the crow might have flown from where he died. I can clearly remember walking down the road and seeing one of those 'Een 'Stannah' (Evening Standard newspaper) boxes with big black letters saying, 'Famous pop star dies'. I was absolutely gutted when I found out who it was.

(Oops, just realized that I answered the question from the other topic.) big_smile

Voodoo Chile for me, all the way.
