Thanks for turning us on to Tex Tone pickups. I never heard of them before. I checked out the sight. Very cool.
I'm looking for a classic strat sound but without the razor highs. The five-two's sound perfect on paper. Currently I have a Duncan Little '59 in the bridge. At the time (12 years ago) it was what I was looking for...not now. Since I changed rigs I want a more classic tone.
If you want classic strat with ROUND tone...the strat pups Dave makes are just that. Most of the Tex-Tone stuff is actually geared towards minimizing the ice-pick highs in the bridge positions of both teles and strats. Neck pups are just fat and sweet. I A-B'd my '05 strat with TexTones against an all original '56 a few months ago - all I can say is that my guitar was a carbon copy of the vintage pups without the high end. Still bell-like and VERY strat-ish but warmer and more present. Chimey like you want a strat to be but the bridge pup is actually useable! Anyhow, my 2 cents. He doesn't charge out the nose, either.
