Topic: New BDS songs

I guess I have the first videos of two new BDS songs (Libby, I am one up on you now)

Here they are

Country Girl: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iq8ZHkUs5X4

Won't Let It Happen (name is tentative, any info would be great): http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4nCJ5Da6pPk

Pretty good aren't they. There is also a review and link to some downloads of the new songs found on BDS forum. I can't hear them at this PC, so they may be the same.

Re: New BDS songs

Listen to These Things by Robert Cray and then listen to Won't Let It Happen and tell me if that melody sounds similar. I asked Davy about it Fri. night and he said it's coincidental, but we both agreed there's nothing wrong with sounding like Robert. Davy wrote Country Girl about his sister moving to London and feeling out of place.

wow that DOES sound very similar (although I still do like Won't Let It Happen better). I have to agree with you and Davy that it is no bad thing to sound like Robert Cray though.

Re: New BDS songs

C'mon, I love The Manxters dearly, I partied my a$$ off with 'em last fri. night, they're the hottest new thing, but These Things and the Midnight Stroll CD is Roberts finest effort IMO. I wish Robert would play more of his older catalogue, but that's another story.

Ya think? Hell they named the band after one of his songs..................................The Dawg

I don't know... I guess it's because I heard Won't Let It Happen during my first live BDS experience and I have not heard too much of Robert Cray (that is becoming less true every day). I guess I was a little harsh in the way I said that I liked Wont Let It Happen more... sorry for that smile

No need to be sorry, say what you mean and mean what you say. I think it's obvious there's no rule that says we all have to agree here. BTW, get yourself a copy of that disc and play it...................LOUD!!!

Cool songs cool !

Are they going to be on the new album?! Prof. Dawg and everyone else who might know - do you have any inside informations about a new album or when it´s going to be recorded?!

Re: New BDS songs

Yes Liebschen, Davy said they will both be included on the new CD which is still in the making. They're so busy now doing tours with Kid Rock & Lynyrd Skynyrd and the upcoming Gov't Mule tour that it's really tough to get much done in the studio. Ross and Adam were heading home for a short break and Davy was headed to LA to work on more songs with his writing partner. They are also hoping to do some UK dates next year finally, nothing close to being firmed up though.

Re: New BDS songs

I'll be at the Nov. 21st gig with Gov't Mule at the Fillmore in SF and I'll see if I can squeeze some definitive answers from Evan and the Slammers, that is if the good Lord's willin' and the creeks don't rise, LOL.

Re: New BDS songs

i just want everyone to know first off that this isn't to start a war of any kind, but more about my own curiosity. I'd like to get some real, genuine responses about this. I'd like to get some POSITIVE feedback on what it is I may be missing or overlooking.

i've been reading all these comments and posts about these guys from BDS and because I trust the ears of Bonamassa fans around the world, i've picked up some of their stuff and checked em out on youtube...and i have a feeling I may get blasted for this (i hope not because its just an opinion), but i just have to ask... what's the big deal? these kids are pretty good (the guitarist is good but not the best i've seen at that age) and they have pretty cool songs, but whats the difference between them and dozens of other bands of young people i've seen that are just as good if not better that never get any deserved recognition? is it more about who you know or who you meet than how you sound? i'm not saying they sound bad by any means because I feel music is like drawings or paintings and there's room on the wall for everyone, i just don't get the huge amount of hype.

Now I'm all for young people spreading the word of the blues and more power to them for their success, but all the hype seems to be just a tad overrated to me. I'm just curious what it is that attracts people to these guys. I'd like to know because maybe I could learn something from them. I feel you can always learn something new.

please dont kill me. lol!

Nobody on here will kill you for saying that... everyone is entitled to their opinions.

What attracts me to BDS can't be narrowed to one thing, but here are SOME of the things that attract me to them.

Their energy is one of the things that stuck out most to me... and seeing them live REALLY shows this (not to say that Roll Away isn't full of energy). I can really see that they love the music... and that is infectious. This gives ME hope that I can someday make it in music  being a young guitar player myself.

I know everyone talks about this and it probably gets old, but I think their age is another thing that is a turn on for most people. That isn't to say that they won't get MORE popular as they get older though.

Overall I just love their music. It's not to everyone's taste... and I understand that. But even if they are not your favorite I HIGHLY suggest seeing them live. I think all music is better live.

Re: New BDS songs

The attraction for me is the perfect combination of unusualy powerful vocal ability with killer tone teamed up with wonderfull guitar work and the additional benefit of rather nice tunes. AND really nice guys to boot !!!
Many bands out there have just One of these qualities but are lacking in the others, rare to find it all in one package any more.

now that i went back to re-read what I wrote, it sounds like I'm an old man or something. I'm actually only 23. So I totally understand the young thing being an attraction. I also play guitar in a pretty good trio, so I also understand the energy thing. I agree though. It may come down to seeing them live.

Re: New BDS songs

Hi Vince,

I think BDS's success is down partly to talent, they have good songs and are talented musicians, and also to hard work. They have been seen live by many forum members and so that helps their profile. I've not seen them live, but look forward to doing so.

I do though agree with your sentiment, that there is room here for everyone and I'd been keen to hear about others good bands of a similar age too on this forum. Apart from Tallan and Ryan McGarvey I'd been keen to hear of any other up and coming American blues rockers.
