I threatened to share photos from my trip with my daughter Jamie into the Minnesota/Canadian wilderness. 6 days of fishing, camping, paddling and portaging (52 miles of travel - not including our fishing excursions - and more than 10 miles of portaging). This is truly "God's Country" and I can't wait to return.

Awesome Bill, I love the wide open spaces myself and can't get enough and every time I go I never wanna leave. Did your bum wing hold up OK? Really dig the shot of the bald eagles, very majestic birds. Gotta find an excuse to head to the mountains again real soon.

The first REAL test of my shoulder. Just a bit of ache after the first few long days of travel. I brought the Advil with, which helped.
All in all, I was really happy with it, considering we were schlepping 50/60 lb. packs around for a week.
We saw bald eagles almost everywhere we went. I never tire of watching them and whenever they were around, it always made us stop whatever we were doing. We also saw otters, loons, deer, pine marten, and the expected assortment of squirrels, chipmunks & ducks.
No moose (disappointment) and no bear (no disappointment).

Yeah....my older daughter did take loads of pictures from her trip, but you know the saying, "What happens in Amsterdam, stays in Amsterdam". lol
That's a really evocative set of photos Bill. Everything looks so calm and peaceful as though even the sound of your paddle in the water would shatter the silence. I'm sure we have places like this in the UK, but I've never been to anywhere which looks so serene and chilled.
Love the photos of you two together: I think it's great that your daughter gets to share quality time with dad. Not many females I know would enjoy fishing.

Great shots and those moments are the best in ones life, father and daughter ( or son)together.
Hope to do the same with mine when they are older.
I'm thinking of making a winetrip to France and Germany then.

Very nice Bill, great about your shoulder too. Its so sweet the bond you and daughter share, when you reduce life to what's important...ya' got it going on brother. My mom's youngest brother (only has 10 years on me) picked out a lot of the music for his oldest daughter's wedding 2 years ago, he's a big dude, former college linebacker, but so graceful on his feet, a total dancin' fool and what rhythm..he's partially responsible for my love of Motown.
One of the classics with 2 meanings to "My Girl"...he dedicated this song to his daughter.

P.S. I hope your Cubs cream those Mets tonight, although I'm not wishing Chicago the same luck on the football field this Sunday.

Looks like a great time Bill! The Boundary Waters Wilderness is definitely one of the great places on the planet. Judging by the lake names you mentioned, you must have entered north of Ely via the Echo Trail, correct? Being from Minnesota, I've spent some time in that part of the state hiking and cross-country skiing, but I've never gone on a canoe/camping trip in the BWCAW. It's something I really should do. Your photos are very inspirational!

Exactly right Lee. The actual entry point is called Moose River North (You can also enter the Moose River headed south, but it's a different entry point and permit), and it is indeed right on the Echo Trail.

Cubs got beat, but they're resting a lot of people right now....waiting until it means something, I hope.
The way the Bears have been giving games away, the Eagles should have no problems on Sunday!
