I´ll probably have a listen to it today ...

I heard two songs out of it so far and quite liked them - it´s like they´re taking a step back to the "old days", but still it doesn´t sound like songs from 10 years ago. I read an interview with them in the german "guitar" and they said something like they were trying to get back to the point when they were "defining the genre" with their characteristic playing. Sounds good to me ...

I haven't had a listen to it yet but I wouldnt mind getting it. Believe it or not I really like St Anger. I know a lot of people seem to hate it and then others love it.

But yes, from what I've read they seem to be goin back to their old ways with this one.

I also like some tracks from St Anger ... but the drums are just toooo dominant for me on this one to listen to the whole album without getting a headache lol

O.k., I listened to it yesterday at the store ... it´s good but I wouldn´t buy it right away. It´s typical Metallica-sound with some really good and catchy guitar riffs, but the songs didn´t get me right away. Don´t know if it´s one of these "you have to listen at least 30 times to appreciate the songs" albums or if the songs are just not so good wink. Was a bit too loud and noisy for me too, but I guess that´s Heavy Metal lol

Did anyone else listen yet?!

There's videos on You Tube from this dvd...here's the link to one, but the user has others up as well. Watch them now as Warner Music already took down others.

I've not heard it yet, but suggestions are it is more to the sound of "And Justice For All" rather than Ride The Lightening / Master of Puppets. Shame if that is the case...

The guitar playing is REALLY good if you like Metallica music. The lyrics (to me) were so-so. But a good metal album and a decent Metallica album. The best one could ask for after James cleaned up and Jason Newsted left.

I'm sure it will grow on me, like all Metallica albums have to do for me.

One thing Metallica did that perhaps Joe should do, is include the CD in the ticket price. I got the new Metallica CD on day 1. Now that I bought tickets to see them in Detroit, the CD's were included in the cost ($75!) but now I have 3 more Metallica CD's coming my way plus a live download of the show I went to. That's awesome.

Good lord, what were Metallica and Rubin smoking when they mixed this album? It's way too compressed and sounds like crap. In contrast, the mix for Guitar Hero III sounds amazing. I can't believe Metallica and Rubin actually sat around listening to the CD mix and said, "Yeah, this sounds great, let's release this". That being said, it's the best album they've put out in years, too bad they ruined the mass market retail version. I hope Rubin doesn't do the same for ZZ Top.

This CD is the latest victim of the 'loudness war' so the CD has that audible clipping that can drive you nuts while turning the mix to crap.

I can't stop listening to the GH version of Death either.  Sounds a million times better than before.  Everything is MUCH more defined and closer to what Metallica should sound like.  The drums and bass especially stand out in this mix much better than the CD version.

I wonder if this was Metallica's or Rubin's idea or some record exec who wanted it 'louder' or if they really knew about it until it was too late.
